Hi Marriane,

Yes, PTB is very serious. He has PTB in both lungs. APL usually refers to apilordotic view, the angle from which the x-ray is taken.

The "infrahilar areas" in the lung are like the base of leaf, where the lung originates and the big blood vessels are located. He has swollen lymph nodes - this is COMMON in a PTB infection.

Your doctor can give your MUCH MORE specific information. I can only provide generalized information as I do not have full test results or a case history on the patient.

Antibiotics are the usual course of treatment with PTB. It is VERY important that your son follow all directions EXACTLY. He needs to take EVERY DOSE as directed and complete the FULL COURSE of antibiotics. Failure to do so can make the infection harder to treat.

Good luck.

I had my xray and the result is

* confluent inhomogenous opacities with lucent lesions within are seen in the right mid to lung base and the left upper lobe.

*bilateral PTB with bullous/ bronchiectatic changes...

what does this mean? Please help..

Hi Guest,

You have a very severe case of PTB.

Bilateral PTB means it is in both lungs.
Bullous means "blisters"
Bronchiectactic means "the airways are getting wider and scarred"
Inhomogenous means not uniform. The opacities (normal lung tissue is clear, not opaque) are not uniform.

Your doctor can/should provide you with more information. You DO need to follow up.
Good luck.

Hi,

I have seen 2 pulmonologists now and I'm in the process of getting 3rd opinion.

1st specialist said it's acute bronchitis and asked me to take antibotics and a medicine for my cough, I suppose.
2nd specialist said it's PTB III and asked me to take anti-TB meds 3tablets a day for the first 56 days.

2nd specialist XRAY results:

Findings:
CHEST (PA/APICOLODOTIC)
Reticulonodular densities are seen in BOTH upper lung fields. Hazy and reticular densities are also seen in the LEFT lower lung. (All else are unremarkable)

Impression:
Findings in upper lobes are suggestive of BILATERAL PTB.
Consider intercurrent pneumonia, LEFT lower lung field.
Please correlate with clinical and laboratory parameters.

On the other hand, my smear test is negative from TB bacteria.

- Am I in the process of acquiring/developing pneumonia? (intercurrent pneumonia)
- Does "suggestive" mean, even if lab test results turn out negative, it still is diagnosed as PTB?

Your response would be appreciated.
