So I have been on the pill now for about 3 years. I have never missed a day. Me and my boyfriend never really use condoms. My doctor said this shouldn't be a problem if I take my pill regularly and at the same time every day. However, I recently started bleeding in between periods? Is this normal? Do I need to worry about being pregnant because I had unprotected sex?? Help please and thanks :-D
Your doctor is right – if you take birth control for this long and take it on time, without skipping chances that you get pregnant are so small that they practically don’t exist. And if you are in a longer relationship there really is no need for condoms because its assumed that you are pretty safe from STDs too. That’s because hormones that are contained in birth control pill change your menstrual cycle so you don’t ovulate. But, these hormones also have effect on tissue of your uterus which is the source of menstrual bleeding. Pill can cause this bleeding between periods, but since you have been taking it for three years without such effects I would recommend you to see your gyn to figure out why is this happening now. Maybe you need to change the pill.
