I too have been plagued by this problem. For 15 years to be exact (I'm 28 and symptoms began during puberty). I went through all of middle/high school embarassed about my face, as the problem area pretty much encompassed both sides of my nose, lips, even eyebrow area. Skin was red and flaky daily, and picking just made exposed areas underneath burn. Then, a few years after high school, I discovered dandruff shampoo (head and shoulders, specifically). When applied to your face and scrubbed off daily, symptoms slowly taper away until they're virtually gone completely. Skipping a day or two of washing has no long lasting side effects, but for me, any longer and the flakes began to slowly return.

i too suffer with the same condition..
its funny though..after reading this thread, i quickly went to the bathroom and
applied this special cream in the areas where it flakes.
i then popped a bagel in the toaster and went back to the bathroom to wash my hands.
..i looked up and bam! the flakes are gone and when i looked carefully i can see the difference from where i
placed the cream to the skin that i did not apply on...
during the winter season my skin dries up..just the facial region.
i recommend using "DDF, ultra-lite oil-free moisturizing dew" ..i dont remember buying this product but it works for me.
im not saying it will work for you as well, but its worth a try.

i have had the same problem... i tried a bunch of lotions but they didnt help then i found the perfect solution... i bought some vitamin E soft gel capsules... i just pop them open either one or 2 and empty them out on my face then i get my hands wet and just rub it in (i use water with it sometimes because the gel is a little thick)... i put a little more on the problem areas... it has helped 100 percent... not only does it get rid of the redness but it makes my face feel so good... ive never had any negative effects... it gives it elasticity and makes it feel and look so healthy... and i continue to use it even though my dryness redness and flakes are gone... i usually use it right when i get out of the shower and it has just become a part of my daily routine and it has been great 8) 8) 8)

I know this is an old thread but I have almost the same problem. My forehead and checks get really dry, flakey and itchy. I try the cortisone cream and itworked but I also used baby oil and seems like it takes away the dry flakey skin but it keeps it red. Anyone else find any way to cure or slow it down?

I just want give thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I recently had a very bad spot that developed a red area around it that seemed to grow larger until it was across my entire chin. I've seen the doctor but progress seems slow so I googled my symptoms and stumbled across this thread where people were sharing symptoms just like mine - just knowing I'm not alone in this has made me feel much better. I'm trying the sudocream suggestion tonight as those symptoms seem most like mine - if my skins a normal colour by monday I'll be delighted.

Hello
I got this rash under my mouth, to the right side and then to the left, then it appeared at the side of my nose. I tried Sudocreme, which seemed to help a little. It was dry lumps, slightly flaky. I could cover it with makeup, but I was getting panicky when it wouldn't go after 5 weeks. Just two nights ago I put some Difflam Spray on my hands and put it on the affected parts at bedtime. Yesterday the rash had almost gone. So I did the same last night. Now the left side has cleared altogether and the right side is barely noticeable. I can see this is really working for me. I'm not a Doctor, and haven't had time to visit mine to see if this is kosher, but just telling you something that's working because I know how awful it is to worry you can't shift it.

I had redness and flakey skin on the chin for a while and I discovered Simply Beautiful Cosmetics (SBC) Propolis Gel, its amazing - you can buy it on ebay or qvc - its natural, made by bees in the hive as an antibacteria - it calms the skin, soothes redness and chapped skin, great for acne suffers too.
Would never go without using it day and night on my face or anywhere else that suffers flare ups.
hope this helps x

You should really have yourself checked for herpes, as that is what your condition sounds like. If you contracted it strictly from the vaginal area of the girl it could be simplex two, but if kissing occurred prior to oral sex you may only have the more commonly contracted Simplex 1.
Either way, if you haven't already, please go to your local Planned Parenthood or other clinic to be sure, as it's possible to spread even when there are no visible symptoms, via kissing/oral sex.

I've been researching dryness around the chin under the lip area, and while I haven't found exactly what my bf is experiencing, I have found possibly what you are experiencing, which is known as angular cheilitis.

I have the same problem, around my chin and sides of the mouth...and sometimes little spots around my eyes and nose...Not itchy just red spots, I keep it at bay with the steroid cream from the doctors, but I am worried about the long term effect. I will try the nizoral..thanks

I don't know if i'm experiencing the same condition, but i have flaky, dry skin on and around my lips, there is also a bit of the same flaky skin on my eyelids. I've tried various types of moisturizers and lip balms, but nothing gets rid of the dry flaky skin for long. If i put water on the skin the flakes seem to disappear, but then my skin burns and gets red. This has been happening for around 3 weeks now.
I don't have a clue what i should do next. Have any suggestions?

Ok, there seems to be a pattern with all of these posts and I fall right smack in the middle of all of them. I've seen two Dr.s and three ointments from topical anitbacterial to hydrocortisone. I've been exposed to active MRSA for the past five years as a care giver and wondered if it was MRSA but no one will culture me unless it were an open sore. WHAT???? It doesn't actually ever open, it just spreads around the lower part of my nose, follows the crease lines (smile lines) down to my outer upper chin and along the crease of my lower lip/chin. I've been fighting this for 6 months, and it itches and burns. I've been advised to see a dermatologists but after reading all of your posts I want to try what some of you are doing that is working. I'm out of work and it gets expensive seeing Dr.s ... and if dermatologists are as mind boggled as general Docs then I feel we are pretty much screwed. Thanks for everyones post ... another link to another writer is I do get yeast/fungal infections as I sweat profusely, and have had problems on my skin for years like under breast and under the flap on my tummy due to pregnancies ... but this is the first time I've had excessive consistant problems on my face. Thanks for everyones advice.

Many skin problems are caused by 1 or more mite populations which live and c**p in human skin. Control these populations and your body will recover over a period of time. Skin cream companies enjoy a billion dollar industry that thrives on the suffering of poor bastards like yourself who are only ignorant to the real cause of the problem. Do yourself a favor, investigate it, don't listen to some t**d who calls himself a dermatologist and prescribes the same c**p to every other client. Deal with all the external factors which may be screwing up your face, skin, and your life. Here's another deal, if your dermatologist didn't even bother to scrape your skin and put it under the microscope, he's a lazy faggot, and worthless.
Cortozones weaken the skin, and your bodies immunity system. Repeated usage increases the probability of future fungal, and microbal infection. And in case you're lucky enough to be exposed to a virus that attacks skin, the virus will have a much easier time penetrating and reproducing in a compromised skin area. Although there are conditions which cortizone is the better of two evils, it is wise to limit it's use to a minimum.
Simply keeping a clean home will solve many factors that affect your skin. (Clean sheets, vacuum, etc)
Try using a combination of tea tree soap and also sulfer soap. These destroy many biological and fungal problems.
Don't expect immediate results. Just because you started a good habit, doesn't mean you immediately will see results. Keep it up though.
Eat well, sleep well, and don't be hanging out with dingy ass dirt bags who barely wipe their own ass.
Pay attention to your health. You're the only one that will.
