I have had this for a few years, and just last year it got real bad in the winter.  It forms in across my eyebrows, cheeks and nose.  Just like the guy that had it in his moustache, I thought it was bacterial or fungal so I tried rubbing alcohol.  When it gets bad I scrub it all off (normally scrape it with my nails) and clean with alcohol for a couple days in a row.  It seems to treat the problem for a couple of weeks at least.  Unlike the other guy I'm not concerned about contaminating my alcohol!

Long term solution,
see a naturopath about getting rid of candida in the body and also ridding the body of acidic nature.  Acidic ph in the body allows for fungus and yeast to grow.  These are candida symptoms.  Eat more greens and less sugars, and try to research a candida diet usually dairy free.

Guys I need some help too. I'm experiencing a similar condition under my lips for the last 3 month and I consulted a dermatalogist on this regard. He prescribed me to use 'Daktacort' every night. The red skin refuses to return to normal skin. It's not itching, but I clearly feel a layer sitting on top of my original skin and it's irritating. It in fact started as a tiny red spot under the lips where I shave. Now it is there in the mid chin and on the sides of the chin. The interesting part is that it seems to get worst when my beard grows out, which drives me to shave every day or every other day. My way of shaving has been, twice a week. I shave and let my beard grow for two week until considerable hair has come out. But now I used to shave every so often. But I'm comfortable and like to be as I was before. Guys please help me with your suggestions.

I appreciate if somebody explaining me the cause of this as I didn't had this 3 months before and the practices that I should follow to ged rid of this situation

I have had the same symptoms for almost a year now. The flakey skin comes and goes, but the redness it seems is permanent. One thing i found that did reduce the redness was toothpaste. An odd suggestion I know, but it worked well.

AI have done a LOT of reading about candida after your post. There are a lot of things it can cause, but I think you are 100% correct. On the diet, I have read no dairy, but I have also read that you need it. There is good bacteria in a lot of dairy like yogurt (sugar free to help with candida) and certain cheeses. The good bacteria in it helps your body to fight off the candida. Also try sprouted nuts like almonds. Google it, it's good stuff. Thanks the help on this one, probably never would have figured it out on my own.

Hello fellow victims of red, dry, and flaky skin!

For about 6 years now, I have suffered similar symptoms, if not the same ones, as those that have been posted on this thread. I'm 21 years of age now, and I went through my high school and college years hiding my face from the world...

Though I am unable to diagnose exactly what my condition is, just as many other physicians failed to do, I found myself dealing with issues of dry red skin around the nose and beneath the lower lip.
I've tried every product out there, both over the counter and prescription medicines, but nothing seemed to work...
Though one of the few products which seemed to work superbly was hydrocortisone. At first, I thought I had discovered a lasting cure for my condition, but after about a few weeks of usage, my red skin returned and my condition had actually gotten much worse..

So you might be wondering why I am posting on this thread...
I am not here to discuss all of the failed treatments that I have encountered.
I want to let all of the sufferers out there know that THERE IS A CURE.
Let's cut to the chase... the cure is found in nature and is commonly known as the CUCUMBER!!

The cucumber holds natural properties known to heal skin blemishes. Cucumbers contain vitamin E and other natural ingredients that are nearly identical to the h20 levels found in our skin.
I'm not a doctor or a dermatologist, I'm currently a mechanical engineering student (GO ENGINEERS!), but I do know that I have come across a life-changing discovery! If you search on the internet, you can find out about all the great things cucumbers can do...

So enough about me, I'm sure you would like to know how to use nature's gift to man!
I am sure there are a number of ways you could use a cucumber, but the way I have been using it has healed my skin in a matter of days!
Below, I have listed a simple procedure on how to apply the cucumber to your daily routine.

Step 1:

-Wash your face or take a shower, and be certain that your face is absolutely clean! Using a facial cleanser for sensitive skin types is ideal; I use Burt's bees products for that, but anything will work..

Step 2:

-Pat your skin dry with a towel, but allow for some water moisture to remain on your skin..

Step 3:

-Have about 3-5 thinly sliced cucumbers ready for application on the skin. (It would be best to have the sliced cucumbers ready in a plastic bag so that you can apply them instantly after washing your face)

Step 4:

- Use one of the slices to exfoliate your skin, so that any dead or dry skin is wiped off

Step 5:

- Place a few slices at a time on problem areas, i.e. wherever the redness or dryness occurs

Step 6:

- Allow for well hydrated cucumber slices to be placed on all areas of the face, this ensures an even skin tone. Show your eyes some love too! Place a couple slices on your eye-lids and on the bags of your eyes.

Step 7:

- Without washing off the cucumber's moisture from your face, allow the moisture to dry a little, then apply your preferred facial lotion. You might want to use a moisturizer for sensitive skin types..

Step 8:

- Last step... enjoy the skin you're in! Pretty simple right?

I hope that I have helped some of you with these steps.
From my experience, I have found that the best way to remedy any condition is to use what is given to us in nature.
Products like hydro-cortisone and other steroidal creams often make conditions worse.

Naturally, there will be conditions that will not be remedied by the tips that I have provided, but let it be known that there is a cure! Do your research, have an open mind, and try to find what works for you!
It took me 6 years to find something that worked for me, so don't be too discouraged if you haven't found anything yet.

Good luck to all of you! Let's show the world what we got!

I am almost 11 and recently my face has been getting red and turning flaky around my nose and mouth. It is really stinging and I think I am allergic to my dog. I have no idea what to do and it is spreading. What should I do?  ?

I found that medicated blistex ( chap stick ) works very well to remove the redness, itchyness, and even the flaky skin.

I am 20 (male) and i typically have the same problem on the bottom side creases of my nose and it spreads down through my mustache. it gets very flakey, red, and itchy and after rubbing it a few times it starts to burn for a while, so i go and wash my face with a hot clean towle then take my blistex lip care and rub it on the areas affected by these symptoms. within 20 minutes the itching and burning is gone. within an hour the flaking is gone, and finally!!!!! after a good nights sleep ( 24 hours ) the redness is gone and my face is back to normal! for about a week then it comes back and i repeat the same steps. I am from texas and never had this problem until i moved to wisconsin so it must have something to do with the dry cold weather!  ** i would not recomend using the same blistex on your lips after rubbing on your face as that would be nasty lol.

PS: MAKE SURE TO USE THE ***MEDICATED*** BLISTEX

I hope this helps millions!!!!!!!

I have had this same thing for 12 years and what I discovered is that there is a direct relationship between the foods I eat and my flare ups. For me it was dairy products...the dairy fat (ghee) didn't bother me as much as the milk solids...so anything that says milk solids (a lot of milk chocolate and chocolate cocoa mix) kills my face and then things like cream cheese, yogurt, and milk also create quite the breakout under my nose and around my mouth. I've searched hi and low on the internet and this is one of the first times I've seen someone else report a food as a cause. I'm guessing its just my way of expressing a food allergy.

Hope that's helpful.

I've posted previously about the rashy, itchy skin issues, but wanted to update my latest findings.

I've been monitoring my diet very closely, and hardly EVER eat white flour and sugar.  I limit dairy and take take a variety of supplements.  Inspite of my efforts, I truly believe that my immune system isn't operating efficiently.  The past couple of years, it just seems like I am spiraling health-wise and I've been really concerned.

I've been having Gastro-esophogal reflux (GERD) since January (along with the rashy face problem).  I also get hives easily and frequently.  I gave up all my supplements in January while being treated for the GERD, because I discovered I had H Pylori.  The doctor put me on a triple therapy of antibiotics and antacids that was NOT fun and didn't seem to help, anyway!  I actually felt WORSE.

Well, to cut to the chase, I was desperately researching and ran across some posts singing the praises of cucumbers, apples and raw potato slices (so many sites!).  It was also suggested by my pharmacist that I begin a serious pro-biotic regimen.  SO, I did, but I also added cucumbers, raw potatoes and apples (really small ones cut into slices that I would nibble as needed) to my daily diet.

I've had AMAZING results with my skin since using the cucumber slices on my face!  I have been using them for several months now and I can even skip a few days (like the weekend) with only a trace (reappearance) of the dry, flaky skin....YEA!  I'm still EATING cucumbers and apples (nearly) each day.  It's all very alkalizing.  My ph on arising in the morning is much more stable than it was previously.  Eating the raw apple, potato and cucumber slices has really helped the GERD, too, although not as quickly as it has helped my skin!  DIET is a BIG factor, I'm SURE!  I'm also still taking the pro-biotics.  My pharmacist recommended them for 6 months (skipping a day or two a week).  No one can convince me that DIET isn't a CRITICAL part of the healing process and isn't it also coincidental that mediTation and mediCation are spelled with only one letter different?!  NATURAL healing is BETTER!  Good Luck.  Namaste!

I have these itchy, burning spots that form up around the corners of the nose and upper lip areas. Once I was the skin these areas seem to flake horribly and it will continue for days at a time then dissappear. The funny thing is that when the outbreak happens again these spots are virtually identical as in the exact same shape area and everything. What can I do about it?

I have been fighting red, flaky patches of skin around my nose, eyebrows, temples and around sideburns and chin for at least 10 years now.

I went to a dermatologist (a crappy one apparently) who didn't give me a diagnosis...just said I have a genetic disorder and prescribed me desonide cream. It works OK at controlling the pain and discomfort, but the redness never goes away and it occasionally just flakes up anyway.

Today I decided to start trying to actually cure it. I'm not sure what's actually causing it, but I'm going to throw everything I can think of at it.

Day #1 - I tried cucumber slices today but seeing as how my areas are everywhere, it didn't work that well. Cucumber slices didn't want to stay put on my face. I washed my face with Burts Bees cleaning wipes for sensitive skin and applied a night time moisturezer, which burned a lot. I felt like I didn't get enough cucumber so I took 1/3 of a cucumber, put it in a food chopper and applied the chopped concotion to my face and let it stay for 10 minutes. It stayed put unlike the slices, but it went EVERYWHERE. I had cucumber in my hair, bed, chest hair, glasses, in the cross I wear around my neck, on my desk...it was....yeah....

So far, no difference in my face...in fact it seems a bit redder.

God, I have this problem too!  It's really driving me mad.

It started as a small red blotch, like 3 little non-whitehead spots in the corner of my chin.  I have tried so much now and it's about 6 times worse and so much bigger.  It makes me so upset to look in the mirror.  I can largely cover it with makeup but I feel like that makes worse.

It's now a big red rash that has bumps, and it burns when I put any cream on it.  Over the course of the day it gets really dry and flakey, and it's flakey when I wake up in the morning too.

My doctor thinks it's acne, but I'm 32 and it really only started a few months ago.  My diet hasn't changed, although it is winter now, but I've never had eczema or anything like that before.

I have tried Vitamin E oil from the Body Shop to improve the flakiness which it did a bit, but I feel like it made the rash worse.  I tried Tea Tree Oil which helps the bumps, but that makes it flakier and stingy.  I tried steroid cream, but I saw no change.  I'm now trying an anti-fungal cream in case it's not acne.  I have tried clay masks and also antibacterial manuka honey, the latter which does actually make it feel better.

Anyway, I'll give the anti-fungal cream a go for a week and see if it improves.  If it doesn't, I don't know what I'll do next.  I have an allergy test coming up in a few weeks.  If I can't find anything I'm going to try light therapy at a skin clinic.
