Nine days ago, I broke a blood vessel in my foot. I was with some friends on a rooftop and, when I jumped down, didn't land correctly and was instantly in extreme pain and could not walk. I went to the doctor two days later and was told that I had broken a blood vessel and that I should be capable of walking within five days. He told me to alternate between Tylenol and Aleve, to ice and elevate three times a day, and to switch between heat and cold once the swelling goes down. He also gave me a pair of crutches.
I've been diligent about following his advice. I'm beginning to grow worried because for the past three days it seems that my foot is not getting any better. I can stand on it (if I only allow a little pressure) and I can drive with it. But whenever I try to walk, a sharp pain runs deep through my foot. The swelling seems to have gone down from what it was, but it is still very clear that my foot is quite swollen. I've been reading to see if there's a possibility that my doctor was entirely wrong... There is discoloration on the arch of my foot, and also a little (not horribly noticeable) on just below my toes. Everything I was reading said that broken blood vessels are very noticeable but generally not very painful. It seems that my case is just the opposite.
So my questions are:
1. Should I go back to see my doctor? I called them up today to see if that seems necessary and they wouldn't give me an answer.
2. Does it, in fact, seem as though I broke a blood vessel in my foot?
3. Are there any other ways that I can speed up the healing process?
4 (the tough but important one): When might I be able to walk again?

I actually have the same problem as you - I actually would say go to Hospital - It took the doctor a year to finally work out what was wrong and mine is in the exact place. I didn't get cruches but my blood vessel did snap straight in half. After about 50k X-Rays they said i had a Broken Blood Vessel.I Have In-Soles now but im not sure if mine was a bad case because it will take to years to heal...

It all depends on the depth of the busted vessel. Only the vessels on the surface are visible, but when they are deeper they are painful and not visibly noticeable. I would know because I too have one, but its in the arch of my foot.
I just had one happen to me in the arch of my foot too stated to freak out thinking it was a blood clot and I was going to die. What did you do for it?
I recently broke my r ankle and broke the blood vessels on the top of my l foot. The blood vessels are way more painful and I can't hardly step down on it. I am on crutches other ankle so it is a problem any suggestions
get a scan...foot is too important and a wrong diagnosis can cost you much more than time. Get it ASAP is my advice...go to another doctor.
I have a friend with the same symptoms but she is in constant pain and little to no swelling what should she do?
I spoke to a nurse on the telephone. She diagnose that I had a broken blood vessel. I'm good now.
