I had twitching in the tricep 2 days ago that lasted a few seconds at a time, and the twitching happened I'd say 10 times or so that day. I did work out hard 6 whole days prior and actually couldn't bend either of my arms past a certain point for a few days but I figured after 6 days it probably wasn't a factor. The twitching only happened in my right arm though. I looked up what could be causing this, and stumbled upon ALS. Immediately after reading that you start to feel weak when you have it, I noticed my arm did feel weak. I know that this could be (and probably is) psychosomatic. Anyways, I've had this "perceived" weakness ever since then (3 days), but I've been working out as normal. and doing the ALS strength tests at home with normal results. I just did a set if dips and push ups before typing this to check myself and I felt fine. Yesterday my leg twitched twice. Though they were single twitches not ones that lasted 5-7 seconds like my arm the other day. I did have a cramping sensation that lasted a few minutes in my leg yesterday. In the back of my leg below the hamstring and then a similar cramp like feeling in my bicep hours later after playing basketball. As I typed this, my right forearm had a twitch also. I'm probably being a hypochondriac, but does the twitching in the arm and feeling (I repeat "feeling" because I'm able to lift things fine) of weakness cause reason for concern? Can I rule out ALS if I've been able to work out?

It's more than likely nothing. I have had twitching in my biceps before, especially after a week of strenuous workouts. If you can do the dips and pushups and continue to workout normally, you're okay. Some early signs of ALS include slurred speach, stiffness of muscles, and trouble walking normally. It seams to me that you only have one of these symptoms and it is probably as a result of your workout. Strenuous workouts can lead to a loss of Magnesium which has been linked to twitching in the muscles. Most Americans are Magnesium deficient in the first place. Try adding more magnesium to your died and just give it some time, you should be okay.

My brother has ALS.  The twitching (fascillations) was his first symptom and it was constant.  It never stopped.    You do not sound like you have ALS.
