Ok here goes... My longtime boyfriend and i had sex about 3 days after my period ended which was aprox 3 weeks ago. The condom we used broke but since it was right after my period i thought i was in the clear. a couple days after that mishap i felt some mild cramping on the left side of my lower abdomen and i felt bloated. at this point i still wasnt concerned until about a week later i felt so tired all the time and i was getting frequent headaches. i'm the kind of person who only needs about 5 hours of sleep but one night i selt 14 hrs and was still exhausted. Anyways so now at this point i've started feeling nausea and my boobs are sore and smells are driving me nuts. I smell and taste things differently and coffee and wine with my mother makes my tummy churn and i'm constipated. I took a prego test and it was negative but i consulted with a doc and he says it's too soon to tell unless i do a blood test. My boyfriend and i have been discussing marriage and babys and he said he would be upset if we got an early christmas surprise but i dont want to get excited just yet and then be let down. How possible is it? i'm pretty regular but it seems my period comes earlier and earlier every month. and if i'm not pregnant what is going on with me?
Hi Melon,
Depending upon when you ovulated, yes it is possible to get pregnant. Your fertility is increasing after your period.
Normally you'd ovulate around day 11-16 (28 day cycle). Sperm can remain viable for about 5 days. So, if this was after about day 6 of your cycle then yes you could get pregnant.
Wait until your period is due to test. When you do, use your first morning urine as it is more concentrated and more likely to give an accurate result. If it is negative, and you still don't have a period 7-10 days later, then retest.
Good luck.
