No doubt!..I am on methadone and it is nothing like heroin...Methadone is used to treat addiction and is commonly used for pain relief..Heroin is used by drug addicts to get high...Although some people abuse the Methadone like that ,It is nothing close to heroin..

Oxy addicts are on methadone because Oxy is a Opiate (as is Heroin), its actually the pill form of heroin. Methadone is to manage the opiate withrawal. Suboxone is pretty much the same as methadone and can be used for both. 11 years ago I was addicted to Oxy's, I went on methadone because I was pregnant. I was off it for 7 years then got hooked on heroin and now Im back on the methadone. So to answer ur question, whether its Oxy's or Heroin, methadone it used to treat both addictions. :)

im 25 yrs old im on methadone for almost a yr and a half and im almost 2 weeks late for my period i took a test and it was negative . also when i was using pain meds for 3 yrs i had lost my period for them 3 yrs and a mth after i started methadone i got my period back and now i dont have it so far this mth and my boobs been hurting and i eat alot . but i always eat alot cuz the methadone but now i feel sick when i eat .i have had 3 kids and ever time i was a few days late for my period i got a text and it was positive with all 3 kids . so im not sure what to do . i seen a doc hes the one that did the test .

Oxy is a diff form of opiate like vicodin, percocet, tylenol_3,darvocet, heroin...etc Suboxone is not like any of those it's an opiate blocker it helps u get off opiates and when u try to do opiates while on suboxone u don't get high becuz it blocks the opiate feeling. Methadone is a little bit different it's a type of opiodbit it helps addicts in the long run it's legal and safe as long as u are monitored and u take it like ur prescribed and u don't mix with anything your not supposed to

Methadone can cause pretty serious hormonal changes. Hence the weight gain, hot flashes, excessive sweating, missed periods and so much more. I get the hot flashes, sweating and weight gain. I was also diagnosed Pre-Menopausal, shortly after starting a methadone maintenance program. But, after 3 years of taking it, my hormones went back to about normal. But, I still get hot flashes n sweating.
I found this web page because I've been doing the research on 'methadone caused, false negatives'. I'm three days late. I definitely had implantation this month and the last two months. My fertility specialist also said, the real pregnancy test is whether or not you get your period. That's obviously for those who actually have regular periods.
For those of you who don't know anything about methadone, research reputable medical websites before you jump to conclusions and comment ignorantly. The reason it's not considered switching one addiction for another is because, when a patient starts at a low dose and gradually goes up until they're comfortable, methadone will not make the person high. Most methadone maintenance patients take one dose in the morning and that's it for 24 hours. The reason they can do that is it's very slowly metabolized, even in liquid form. So, the patient never gets high off of it. You can even drive while taking it.

I have been in MMT for right over 2 years and while it has helped me get my life back, I do not care for it at all. Trying to get off of it is 10 x's worse than trying to get off of pills. The anxiety is unreal and at times unbearable. I think that people should inform addicts when they come in of these severe side affects and try to offer a different route. The lace I have been going to has rapid detox and other detox programs but told me nothing of it. I've had 5 counselors since I've been there and God forbid you lose your job because they will detox you in a heartbeat!! I am trying my hardest to get out of this program. Im at 21 mgs a day with 60 being my highest and 11 being my lowest. Just today I started tapering down at 1 mg a week and I pray that I don't have any withdrawals that send me to the hospital. I've been there 2 times for this c**p. Counselors such as yourself do us a service that is replaceable. Having someone other than the people you see everyday, to talk to is big help. I don't see mine as much as I'm supposed to because at this point I don't like going up there because most of the other patients are just there to get high. Thank you for what you do!

I am on methadone & have been for several years. I've never missed a period & am very regular. When my period was due last month, I had light spotting, and this month I haven't had one at all. I would've usually started a little over a week ago. I took a hpt a few weeks ago & another this morning, but they both came back negative. I have so many symptoms that make me think I'm pregnant. I'm stable on my dose & have been for a very long time. Did anyone ever find out if they were pregnant? I don't know what to do. Please, someone give me advice.

I totally agree! I was a herion addict for a long time, but I've been on methadone for three years. My daughter will be one today! I had her on methadone. I kept getting false posotive results, as well. I didn't get a real posotive until seeing my gyno! Also, I agree that you should get help! Go to a methadone clinic and save yourself! It's never too late to be saved!

I'm wondering the same thing! I have all the pregnancy symptoms and I haven't had my period in 5 years due to being on heroin then methadone. About a month and a half ago I became sexually active and now out of nowhere my boobs are swollen, cravings, bloated, etc!! I have taken every brand of preggo test, all negative. So I went to clinic and got blood test, will have results Thursday. I talked to a pregnant girl at my methadone clinic and she said all her urine preggo tests came back negative and she didn't find out she was pregnant until she took the blood one. So I will let you guys know Thurs if I am preggo or not, and if I am then methadone does cause false negative. Because my other two pregnancies before I was on methadone came up positive on the pee stick right away!!
