I agree, can-opener...

I used to know this guy who could can-opener off the diving board, and had this incredible technique of coming off the board and going into bascially a seated position with leg extended, leg up, and as he'd hit the water with his backside, he'd straighten out really hard and fast so basically his back would make an even bigger wave... it was, truly, a work of art!

Cannonballs give you best sound though, in my opinion. AND if you're going to freak someone out who is IN the pool, nothing like laying down a nice tight cannonball two feet from them.

I commend your passing of the family tradition. I've taught Maddy both of them... She prefers the cross-legged Cannonball.

I've also had good results from the "watermelon".

Good call, I love the "melon" as it is known in these here parts. As an added benefit, when you perform the "melon" everyone thinks you are completely insane.
Which is nice..

It took me many summers to get the courage to do that move.

I like the cannonball...do tell, what is the "melon"?

A "melon" IS a cannonball. Just, you know... upside down.
Headfirst, no hands.

Yup. Kinda makes yer head tingle a bit, too.

Should I try and teach my five year old this.

If he can do it, he will be the king of the pool for the rest of the summer.

In other words, yes. Immediately.

I usually do the Cannon Ball. I might have to try the Can Opener to see how well that works.

Greg and I could do some mean can openers, and have spent more than our share warming the bench at a pool for wetting a lifeguard or 100.

NEVER liked the can opener.....way too much slap on the butt cheeks for my taste.

Now the cannonball, oh I was queen of those when I was a kid....our pool was great for that too! :fubby:

So how exactly did you manage to have butt tingle on the can opener (known as the jack knife when I was growing up) and not on the Cannon ball. I was the exact opposite!
