Sorry man. Sounds like anxiety. Ask your doctor about Antivan. It's a anti anxiety pill. Use it when you feel freaked out and ut helps in an hour, typically 20 min or less. Hope this helps. I know how you feel.

Dear comrades!

There's a cure - I've got a certain, reliable diagnosis and treatment, but first:I found this forum after looking for a cure for my hangovers, which have drastically worsened lately. I'm  a binge drinker in his 20s.My symptoms are the same: fast, irregular heartbeat, shallow breath, sleep apnea, insomnia, sense of dread, and also lately: numb limbs, itching, spasms, visual sensations such as sparks in field of vision, swallowing problems and regurgitation, to name a few.

I have consulted a neurologist, due to my neurological problems history (which have proved curable, and as of today my MRI, blood tests, artery ultrasounds, cerebrospinal fluid test results are correct) I couldn't be more worried and I was urged to go to see a doctor. It turned out to be typical symptoms of acute magnesium deficiency. That's what causes spasms and muscle sensations, also anomalous nerve conduction, which leads to numbness and e.g. swallowing problems. Magnesium ions are a very important element of electrical conduction between nerve fibers in synapses and homeostasis of body cells themselves. There's no connection between feeling of heart and lungs failure and their actual health, because there are a neurological symptoms of a shock which leads to anxiety attack.

Your life isn't directly endangered. But beware, untreated, these symptoms can remain and what's worse, you could experience them even without intoxicating.

Treatment is simple - fighting off magnesium defficiencies using supplements (e.g. magnesium chelates). Go see your doctor, and he'll measure the dosage you need and plan your medication. If you are devoted to drinking because of your social life (as I do), there's a slight possibility that if you undergo a preventive therapy each time you plan to drink - you could drink a reasonable amount of alcohol with almost no side effects. But that depends on you. I've had enough with these fears, and for me the game is not worth the candle. I've started a fully sober life, so you could wish me goodspeed and luck ;)

That's it. Go see your neurologist, and listen, what he has to tell you. I can't give you exact medications' names, because I live abroad and there would be no use. Good health and happiness to you all!

Firstly, I'd like to thank all those people who have posted here for helping me to try to understand what has been happening to me. I'm a 45 year old male, and I have drank beer every day of my life since I was about 17 years old. For most of that period, beer was the first thing I would have when I woke up in the morning and I would continue to drink all day if I wasn't working. I would drink beer with every meal, and sometimes on the weekends when not working I would also hit the hard liquor. I have also been a heavy smoker for 30 years and a daily marijuana user. I have not done any serious type of exercise since my late teens, and would consider my diet to be pretty bad and of poor nutrition. I sometimes ate nothing at all  -  just drank beer all day. I am 178cm tall and weigh about 65 -67 kgs, and I actually appear to be quite healthy although I know my lifestyle was seriously unhealthy.  All the symptoms above that have been discussed have all just started happening to me over the past few months. At first it was just shortness of breath, but then dizziness and a feeling of thinking I was going to pass out, followed by the chest pains, pin and needles and a feeling of numbness in my left arm, and then headaches and light headedness. Of course at first I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Doctors though said there was no problem with my heart after running tests. I was diagnosed with a respiratory tract infection and treated with anti biotics. But the symptoms worsened and I was admitted in to hospital where I was diagnosed first with respiratory failure, and then later as having asthma. I had been diagnosed with asthma as a teenager, but had never had an attack and was thus a little confused and unhappy with the diagnosis. I was treated in hospital and told to give up smoking and drinking, and the doctors told me that my liver wasn't looking too good. I had also been told there was an enzyme discrepancy when I was in my early 20's but continued to drink beer nonetheless without any problems. So when I was released from hospital this time I thought that it was asthma and I went and had a drink because I was feeling better. But this thing returned, and in a really scary way. I thought I wasn't getting enough oxygen and started hperventilating to the point of my hands seizing up and I didn't know if this was some kind of stroke or heart attack or lung failure or what ??? My astma puffer and ventolin were not helping at all.  Since reading this entire thread, it has made me feel a lot better, and I know that I can't ever go back to the booze now. I have also quit smoking, which either way can't hurt. I had been thinking that the alcohol is definitely a trigger or cause but think that there is a little more to this and want to look into things like magnesium deficiency or hormone/chemical imbalance  as a catalyst. This feeling of not being able to get a decent breath of air, and waking up thinking that I had forgotten to breathe, or not being able to sleep at all for fear of death was sending me crazy. I've been off the grog for a few days now and still recovering my last attack, but will stick with abstinence and report back here of the results. I really don't want to stop drinking beer, but this scary feeling is sending me insane and I need it to stop so that I can begin to focus on my career and be a father again instead of a burden to my wife who has been affected by my condition too. I had no idea that so many other people have suffered this cruel and unusual type of condition, and whilst I feel for you all, it is good to know that I'm not alone and that this ( hopefully ) isn't going to kill me. Your comments here have been of a lot of help to me and helped me to relax and get a few hours of sleep this morning. I'll report back and let you know of my results. Best wishes,

                                              paulie.

Wow! Man, you must be made of some robust material to have lived with that drinking and smoking and pot and eating AND no exercise pattern for that long and still be in one piece.

When I drink I can get through about 10 pints, this is usually once every two weeks I drink. I used to be able to manage it with just a normal hangover for a couple days, never got in the way of life. But now I am ok on the night out, but I get this terrible hangover that gets worse over the next 3 days, really bad breathing problems, water retention, and a feeling like I am going to pass out. And so weak I can barely get out of bed for a week. But it's the breathing problems and exhaustion that are killing me. I workout with weights, bike, walking , 3 times a week, and it's not doing me any good, I drink and I am like a old man for the next week and can barely stay awake, and the amount of sets I can do working out, is getting less, I am going backwards instead of forwards.

I really don't see any other option for me but to stop drinking, I think I might have damaged something with all the years of drinking, and I feel so crappy I have no life at all anymore, it's a nightmare. I am alsio going to give up smoking at the same time as smoking is a trigger that makes me want to drink. I gave up smoking and drinking once for 3 months and I have never felt better, the first 2-3 weeks I was tired all the time and cranky, but it passed and I felt so good. I want to feel that good again. If there are people out there who are feeling rough with a lot of problems from drinking, smoking, you're not alone, and you can give it up and you will feel like a new better, happier person in a few months if you stay off the poisons breaking your body down. I've been there and done it, I've gone from having to have ambulances called to my house because I thought I was dying, to feeling healed again and fitter than ever once I stayed off the drink and smokes. Your body can recover in about 3 months, but you must not even drink one drink or smoke one ciggerette, it leads right back to being addicted in a big way.

I've read everyone's post. I suffered from the same self inflicted ailments most of you described. Useless ER and doctor visits for me as well. I have found the solution. It's a simple combination.. I stopped using caffeine and alcohol. Results: I can breathe and sleep. Not to mention the monetary value. I sleep like a breathing baby..! Consider yourself cured if you follow these steps.

Hey I went to a pretty dirty bar and got beer on tap. I went home and passed out when I woke up my chest and back was killing me then I threw up but not very much. Is it possible I could have got my vomit stuck in my lungs while being passed out or was it just dirty beer?
