I'm a 25 year old, healthy, active male and I too have been experiencing severe chest pain after swallowing food or water. I went to the doctor twice and he still hasn't treated it right. The first time he gave me heartburn medicine and the second time he gave me vicodin for pain. Seriously? I'm tired of the lack of effort in these diagnosis, but that's a whole different topic. Anyways, if any of you have any input after you doctor's visit, please let us know. I'm starving and can't eat b/c of the pain.

Anybody tried inducing vomiting? On me, it feels like this pain is at the top of the esophagus. I once had a chip stuck in my throat a few years ago, and it sorta felt like this. This time though, the pain is more constant and lots more painful.
I'm gonna go try to induce vomiting. Be back in a lil bit with any results.

alright i have similar symptom as some of you. oh my gosh. it hurts. so when i swallow or take in deep breath, the mid right side of my chest and the lower part of my throat hurts. it started early today around 2pm. i was hoping that it would go away but i am definitely wrong about that. it does feel like something is stuck in the mid part of my esophagus but i know that i'm not choking on anything so i'm guessing it's something else.

Ok, i'm a 15 yr old female. I started having these problems two days ago. The symptoms are as follows: right ear ache, mid right chest pain, feels like something is stuck in my esophagus, my nose is stuffed, and I loose my breath alittle when I eat or drink. It hurts when drink, eat, or even take a deep breath. It happened after I took two aleve for a migraine. I've been having a lot of those recently by the way. I've done my research and I've found two different problems. GERD and Odynophagia. Hope it helps.

I am a 28 year old female. I have had the same symptoms for the past 5 days- instant pain when I eat or drink. It even started hurting when I take deep breaths. I went to the doctor who did an EKG, said it was fine, and sent me home. The pain continued on though, so I decided to look it up myself. This sounds exactly like what everyone else is feeling. Did anyone ever go to the doctor and get a diagnosis? I just bought some OTC meds and I am hoping for the best right now.

I am a 38 year old female having same symptoms. I woke up nauseated a week ago, feeling something was stuck in the esophagus. I didn't vomit but continued having pain in my chest, slightly on the right side, that radiated to the back. I cannot even drink water without pain. I have been taking doxycycline for acne for 6 months. I found out this can cause esophageal problems so i stopped it. I ended up going to the ER during the weekend. They ruled out anything heart and lung related through chest xray, CAT scan of chest and blood work. I was put on Prilosec and hydrocodone for the pain. I went to my PCP on Tuesday, who thought it may be gallstones or helicobacter pylori. Both tests came back negative. Next is consult with GI doctor for possible endoscopy to rule out ulcer. I am sick of the burning pain. It is now radiating to my right arm at times. I feel like I am falling apart! I have been drinking Ensure sip by sip. Everything hurts! Hope we find an answer!

Here is something I found out researching since I too am having same issues. Here is my issue throat and chest pain when swallowing, even when drinking water. I too was also taking a tetracycline for acne. Apparently the tetracycline will sick to the esophagus or stomach and an ulcer will form. This ulcer if formed in the esophagus or near the stomach will induce the chest and throat pain. The treatment recommended that I read says to take proton inhibitors and sucralfate as directed by a doctor. The pain will subside within a week with this treatment. "Doxycycline-induced esophageal ulcer (DIEU) is a documented adverse drug reaction." Most doctors are not aware of this. I will be going to the doctors tomorrow. Please post your update and experience with the doctors, thanks. good luck to all.

well i was looking it up a couple times, i have this as well, a pain whenever i eat food, it hurts roughly 5 seconds after i swallow, like you have something stuck in your throat and when you swallow its streching your stomach or something, and whenever i burp i get backflow of acid to my mouth. i was looking it up and it could possibly be Esophagitis, which is an inflamation in your esophagus, which from what i read it looks like it can be caused from dry swallowing a pill, mostly anti-inflammatories, such as Ibprofen, theres many other kinds that will cause this, im sure a pill like advil would do it too, no need to fret, if you have this they would just give you some medicine to gargle then swallow, or some kind of pill(Cowincidence? haha). but im not a doctor or anything but thats what i read so look it up, its called Esophagitis it has the symtoms you guys mensioned.

Female- I'll be 14 in one day
I have just recently be suffering from chest pain as I swallow
but the thing is that its not only food its liquid to
I'm kinda scared because I dont know what is wrong with me
I have been doing research but all I am able to come up with is GERD
when i swallow I can feel it moving down my throat and when it gate to the point where it raches my chest I get a burning feeling right in the middle of my chest
everything I have read about gerd says that it is related to heartburn but I dont think that the pain I am feeling is heartburn
Also something I just noticed was that I'm having a little trouble breathing and when I take in a deep breath the end makes like a wheezing sound
and to top it all off I have a cod but i dont think that has anything to do with the chest pain
I need help if anyone is dealing with this can you please give me some information

I just woke up with similar symptoms as many people and this thread. Intense pain in the middle of my chest and in the center of my upper back. It gets worse a few seconds after I swallow and it feels like something is caught in my throat. I have not dry-swallowed any pills.
The past few days I have been experiencing bloating and constipation, as well as sulfur burps (rotten egg taste/smell everytime I burp). I am also under a lot of stress due to final exams. I saw on a few sites that anxiety could be a possible cause of this, but the symptoms appeared after sleeping, which is when you are most relaxed. I attribute the bloating/constipation/sulfur burps to stress/anxiety. I get this a lot when I feel under a lot of pressure, but the chest pain is new and definitely has me worried.

It is gerd, to all of those with a sharp pain when swallowing. It's caused by swallowing pills and getting one caught in your throat. It sits on the "cup" of your throat and causes inflamation or can even burn a hole. Go to the doctor and they should give you a liquid antibiotic. I'm going in for the 2nd time. Ughhh...
I was also told that it can be from drinking heavy. And I'm sure from Acid reflux.

38 yr old male with history of acid reflux. I have been on aciphex or nexium for 10+ years with no issues.
2 days ago, I started getting a VERY sharp pain in my chest when I swallow food (not water) or burp. I also get mild pain when I take a very deep breath.
I just left the hospital after they did several tests: EKG, CT scan, blood work, and ultrasound. All showing good.
When I swallow food (well chewed), it feels like I am slowly swallowing a golf ball. It does not feel (to me) like pain inside my throat. It feels more like muscle pain surround the throat.
With that said, the doctor sent me home with prilosec and pepcid.
I plan to make follow-up appointments so they can scope my throat.

I'm a 14 year old male, I turn 15 in a month. I've noticed that this happens to a lot of people around my age...?
I woke up today with this problem. When I eat or swallow a liquid, there is a brief pain right above my heart. One could almost mistake it for the heart. It is only when my head is straight up and I swallow, however. If I bend forward and swallow, it doesn't hurt. This is my first day, it may be temporary. I'll keep you updated.
