Thought some bits about my situation would help.

-Sporadic sharp pain when swallowing solids or liquids
-No reflux (should eliminate GERD)
-No Tetracycline or pain med dry swallowing
-Difference with me is that when mine subsides, it reduces to a dull pain in the chest even when stretching or moving certain ways.
-Doc told me to wait two weeks and if not better, set up an endoscopy

I am having some of the troubles that some other people here have said. After I swallow, I can feel the food rush down by throat and it hurts. It is the same feeling that you get when you eat too much peanut butter, and you need something to wash it down with. I know i don't have GERD. I am a 15 year old male.

I'm having the same problem after swallowing a supplement when I was too tired so my subconcious coordination (such as accidently biting your tongue when you eat from begin too tired) was off thus my pill didn't go down correctly this the same problem as you guys.

What happened was yes our lower esophageal sphincter (LES) was scratched, possibly infected or whatever. Main thing is it's not working as best as it should so it isn't closing properly thus we have these pains when eating as stomach acids aren't staying in the stomach.

I'm a big believer in your body being stronger and better w/o man made drugs and treatments as I wholly believe that most of those 'cures' or 'solutions' are actually just masking the problem and not fixing the root thus you never get better and get worst over time!

Anyhow; this is what I'm going to do as thanks to a holistic approach to my health, I've been on my way to a better lifestyle and better general health!

The pain when swallowing seems to have stopped for me, however it has seemed to have spread a bit into and is a dull pain in around the sternum just in the rib cage. Going to have it checked out, but thought I would poll the crew.

I have the exact same symptoms and have been taking Doxycycline. I'll go and see my doctor asap and let you guys know what happens.

Same here. Pain started about a week after starting Doxycycline. Have read this can happen if I don't take it with enough water, which it tells me to do on the bottle. (Guilty.)

There seems to be significant information out there on Doxycycline-induced ulcerations. Still doing research....

I had the same thing happen. Not sure if we all have the same problem but here is my history. I have (I Believe) an acid reflux problem since sometimes when I try to go to sleep at night and I've eatin a rather large meal maybe less than 2-3 hours earlier I will aspirate which is a horrible experience. Anyway enough of the history, since my LES is weak and has been for a while I recently caught a cold and something new was a sore throat. I believe that the sore throat bacteria went down into my stomach and infected my LES which caused the pain of swallowing a bone sideways whenever I ate. I pretty much laid off the food (or chewed it up really good) for a couple of days and drank some slimfasts along with a daily doze of Zantac. Now the pain is gone after four days but my stomach is still a little queasy so I'm not completely done. Bottom line: I think the sore throat infected my already weak LES. I probably need to see a doctor but I really don't like going. I hope all you get cured and remember to keep this post going with whatever helps or the doc's tell ya. It seems that alot of people are having this problem. Thanks for posting.

OK, same here. Pain when I eat food or drink. My right ear is sore to the touch. I have read that is an issue to some in here also. My lower back is painful sometimes and my upper back is painful sometimes. Luke warm water seems to go down alright without too much pain, but cold water hurts badly. I have went to the doctor and he did my blood work and everything came back fine concerning my pancreas and liver. He ordered a ultra-sound and I will hear the results of that today. I will post here when I know what the problem is.

A little more about me and some of the things I might think caused it. I never take medicines without water so unlike some posts here, I know that is not what caused my situation. I do drink nothing but flavored water that containes aspertain. I don't think aspertain is the problem because I have been drinking it for the last three to four years without an issue but some people think aspertain is killing people so I thouhgt I would mention it to see if any of you drink a lot of it. I have recently ate a lot of the Life Savers wint o green mints. Just threw that in because after I had some of those, my problem began. I do think this is just a fluke also. Not sure why these little mints would cause a problem like I have. I take creatine for weight lifting purposes. Been taking it for about two months. I take Whey protien drinks for weight lifting also. That is about all I can think of that I do that is not normal. Do any of you that is experiencing this problem have anything in common with what I am doing?

I'm experiencing a lot of the symptoms posted on this board too - it's a pity there's not really a lot of floow-up posts after people have been to the doctor...

I woke up about 10 days ago with aching limbs and a fever and a feeling of something stuck in my throat. Put it down to flu (or tonsillitis although I had my tonsils removed 2 years ago). Anywy the next couple of days I was fine with no symptoms and then suddenly have been feeling this pressure above the chest - not like heatburn (although never had heartburn so have nothing to compare it to). It's a dull pain that's always there and then when I swallow any food or water, I can feel the food going through the eosophagus and it really hurts.

I was thinking in the begining it might be a throat infection or something but now I think it's something to do with the eosophagus. The lump in the throat is still there although I can't see anything. Not sure - maybe I'm suffering from several different things...

Going to the doctor tomorrow but I'm sure he'll jsut fob me off as usual! I'll hopefully put up a post again after my appointment...
