I've had the similar problem long time ago.
I'm a 24 year old male.
The pain started like this for me. Swallow got hard, and I tried to burp but it was so hard for me to burp. After that, I got this small pulse of pain on my chest area. The pulse got worse at night till I couldn't bare the pain anymore... I had to go to the emergency room. They didn't figure out what it was but they did say they found my stomach to be swollen after a cat scan. The doctor just said it's probably that gastro..something pain but she wasn't 100% sure and said I should take endoscopy to really find out what's wrong. She gave me prescription pills and everything but I never bought it. After 2 days, the pain went away.
I think the problem was it was late at night, I was on the floor eating In and Out. I guess my posture was the problem from what I've read online.
I'm getting the similar pain right now and I'm just scared to death this is going to happen again...
The pain is minor for now and I'll be drinking alot of liquid in a straight posture. I think it may be the sleeping melatonin I take everynight right before I sleep.
Will keep you updated. For now, I'm going to sit up right and drink lots of fluids.

Im a 24 YO female and I had a similar situation just happen, 2 Days ago, I noticed a pain in the left lower part of my chest, (in the lower part of my breast/top of rib cage) It only happens when I drink cold liquids. I also am burping alot, but nothing comes up with it. I thought I was having heart attack symptoms and it was freaking me out. From the sounds of it- it may be heartburn or something, So I am going to try to take OTC meds and see if that helps. Glad to know I am not alone in this.

Stumbled across this thread after a Google search. I recently had a cancerous tumor removed and am at risk for recurrence, so I'm on the lookout for dull chest pains, particularly ones that seem to go through all the way to the back. It was worrisome when I started experiencing this.
Anyway, after noticing the trend of people on this thread to have recently taken tetracycline et al., I realized I'd been taking cranberry extract pills over the last two weeks following a UTI. These things are pretty harsh, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were getting lodged in the esophagus and frying the tissue down there.
So I did two things: (1) stopped taking the pills for a couple days; (2) took over-the-counter Mylanta. The pain almost immediately went away once the Mylanta reached the part that was hurting, and today it feels like it's healing nicely. All the (hopefully) psychosomatic symptoms have gone away, too: tightness in chest, feeling like I need to remember to breathe, acute awareness of swallowing, hypersensitivity to other tiny chest pains.
(I did get clean results with my most recent CT scan, which was taken right around when the symptoms started, so I'm pretty sure this really was just an irritated esophagus.)
I wanted to contribute a happy resolution to this thread, which is full of scared people who seem to drop off the face of the earth after posting. If you're having symptoms like mine, try Mylanta -- if it gives you relief, that's a good clue that the pain is inside your throat and not somewhere else scary like your lungs. And when your bottles of pills say "TAKE WITH FOOD," follow that advice! Take your pill with water, then eat something to help push the pill all the way into your stomach!
Good luck, all, and be well!

I have had tonsillitus & a sore throat for 3 mos now. Before this I was told I have GERD/ acid reflux, even had that GI endoscope test done ...came back normal. The Dr said I did have reflux. Now consider this.....for the last 3 mos I've been on 3 rounds of antibiodics ...I feel like my stomach is so messed up just from that, which you know they kill off all the GOOD bacteria.Ever since this I burp, well I started taking raw ginger root with honey.I chew it real good and then swallow. It helps. My tonsil on the right side though is swollen to where I can feel it when I swallow nothing. As soon as I eat or drink anything, swallow I feel pain in my throat and high in my chest. All the pain is on the right side.I wonder if my esphogus could be inflamed from the throat drainage, cuz' I had pus coming out of my tonsils......I know this sounds gross.Sorry, but need to tell the facts. This means I've been swallowing this infection for months.Has anyone ever had this too? I've been gargling with salt water, stopped that and bought a "special" mouthwash at Walgreen's and gargled with it.My tonsil is STILL sore and enlarged.I even went to a ENT Dr, he was worthless...said my tonsil wasn't infected.Well then why does it hurt I ask myself.

I think I've got the same thing ... And I've done mini experiments.
My findings:
when I swallow large amounts.. it hurts intensely for about 5 seconds.. then a very mild discomfort follows for as long as a minute.
It feels like somebody is squeezing my esophagus.
swallowing saliva/water or any other liquid does not hurt.
Swallowing water immediately after food stops the pain quicker.. as soon as water hits the area that's hurting .. pain stops :-D
Hope this helps..

I have a pain in the middle of my chest when swallowing food or taking a drink of water. I've been getting this for a couple of days and it can come on almost instantly after swallowing, from my throat downwards, where it worsens in the middle of my chest and feels sharp and painful. Sometimes though, I might swallow and won't remember the pain, and then a few seconds later it'll come on very sharply and is painful.
I have Crohn's disease (inflammatory bowel disease which can affect from mouth to rectum) but I don't know if that is the cause of this. I've never had this kind of discomfort before but I've been getting acid reflux for the last few days, too.
On a side note, I think the reason no one comes back with follow-ups is probably because they find this web site while searching their symptoms on Google, and then forget where they found it and can't get back.
I am going to the doctors and I am going to post a follow up. Just let me save this URL... :-D
By the way, if anyone out there suffers with anxiety like me, don't be worried that you might have Crohn's disease because of your symptoms. For most of my time with Crohn's, I have had inflammation in my small intestine and occasional acid reflux, nothing to do with THIS problem.
Good luck everyone.

Hi guys, Pretty much what everyone has mentioned, tight chest, pain when swallowing, I felt today for the first time ever.
I'll definently see the doctor tomorrow. But if my chest gets more sore during the night, I think it's best to go to the hospital.
Fingers crossed, it wont get worse. Makes me feel better this is quite a common problem and therefore probably doesnt have anything
to do with an incoming heartattack.

I have a severely sore throat that is red. I thought it was strep throat but there are no white or yellow markings on my throat. I have the same exact problems/symptoms as most in this post, and will head to the store to take mylanta and see if that helps. seems to be the best alternative to the hospital. It all started after taking pills without water for the first time in my life, im a 30y/o male. The pills were ibuprofen. Any suggestions?
