k so i just had a sandwich and up until then, no pain, after swallowing it, im getting pain in the center of my chest.. its worse with food(solid food, had pasta for dinner and didnt notice anything), water hurts a bit but not as much as the sandwich did. oh and its like the pain is in the center, but just a little to the right.. if i swallow saliva, it still hurts a little.. anyone know what this might be?
im thinking it my be the start of a cough cuz a roommate just got over his, and the whole house has had it. i thought i had it, but that was there and gone in a day. i seem to be having sinus problems, but nothing that i havent had before. im pretty sure the pain will go away cuz its not overly painful, but enough to bring up questions about it, so anyone know what it might be?

I have the same thing. I'm 19 years old and I just noticed it 2 days ago when I was eating a piece of pizza. My whole throat was burning down to my chest followed my peircing pains everywhere. I thought it was gas cuz it is almost impossible to burp. Took meds for heartburn and they did nothing. For me its a constant pain but gets way worse when eating. If its GERD will it eventually go away or will I have to keep taking meds for it?

35 yo female, prescribed doxyclcline for a repiratory infection. Within 2-3 days of it, same horrible pain everyone has previously occurred. I'm a graduate of a nursing program, studying for the n-clex. I didn't know this could happen. But, like most, was not taking the medication with a full glass of water...there's something to the doxycycline/pain connection.

same here. im 17 and it started on thursday and it is now monday and i still have a sharp almost burning pain in my chest whenever i eat something, drink something (carbonated or un-carbonated), burp, lay down, or take a deep breath in or out. i think i might have taken a high doseage pill without a sufficent amount of water which may have caused it. if someone can please tell me what i have would be great.

I have had similar problems with severe pain in the middle of my chest when swallowing food and drink. I also have heartburn at night when lying down. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and was prescribed Prilosec. The treatment works for me as I've tried to stop the medication several times and each time the symptoms return.

Hi. I have a yellow/white tongue, and i have had a really sore throat for atleast a week now.
Everytime i try to eat i get this lump in my throat that follows the food, or at least feels like it. Then i get this weird tight chested feel that only lasts for about 5 seconds but it's not only when i eat, it's also when i drink any food also. I'm finding it really difficult to eat or drink normally therefore i have been off my food now. :-(
I have tried lockets, soothers, throat spray and vic. None of this is helping.

I have this same problem! From all of the sources I have gathered info from, I have concluded that this is a problem with the valve on the top of your stomach. It does not fully close at night and when you lay down and go to sleep, the acid eats away at your throat. The only solution is to eat soft foods like suop and drink only water. Try to sleep in a vertical position, and it should stop in 1 - 2 weeks.

I forgot to post the most important thing here! We highly suspect that her problem was caused by taking an Ibuprofen tablet without sufficient food/water. We feel the tablet burned her esophagus, which made eating/drinking very painful. We now know that when a medicine bottle says to take with plenty of food or drink, this is why.

I've read all of your posts and have found many commonalities in our symptoms. A few weeks ago, I started experiencing a pain in my chect after I swallowed food and would drink something. I thought it was just gas, so I wrote it off and believed it would go away. Well it hasn't and on this past Saturday the pain became more noticeable after an afternoon caused by a good bowl of ice cream. Upon awakening, I felt some nausea and a slight headache. Later that evening I vomited several times and the headache became worst. I felt horrible and I just wanted to sleep. So I took a unisom and felt so much better the very next morning.
Well Tuesday evening, I was back to my unhealthy eating patterns. I ate several slices of pizza and drank 2 cans of soda. While at work yesterday (Wednesday, June 2, 2010) I began to feel nausea, lightheadedness, and some dizziness. And after each drink, it seemed the pain in my chest increased; and it seemed as if I could feel the pain in my upper back as well. My co-worker gave me a Pepcid AC tablet and suggested I take some Prevacid. I later explained the symptoms to my Mother, whose no stranger to gastroesophageal reflux and other related issues, agreed to the symptoms being related to GERD and recommended Prevacid as well.
This morning I took the second prevacid of a 14-day trial. As I am writing this, I am experiencing some lightheadedness and a touch of an upset stomach after a few watermelon chunks. However, while, the pain in my chest and in my pain is quite noticeable. I can feel it by just sittting, but it's much more noticeable while eating and drinking. I also felt jitters this morning as well.
I do believe I am experiencing some heartburn or reflux. We will see over the next few days if the self-diagnosis is true or not.
