The reason why I answered is because he was beating himself up about it, and I was telling him it is a natural part of life and ALL mammals do it! So since it is natural and he is a 14 year old boy - raging with hormones - how can this poor kid stop doing something like that! To tell a young boy he is sinful for this I think is WRONG! Can you actually say Igy that ALL good Catholics and Christians The almost 1 billion of us - do NOT masturbate? That is not realistic, and it breaks my heart - as a mother and a child of God and a GOOD Christian that this young boy is made to feel SO bad about hmself! And actually you misquoted the acual passage reads

Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God

NO WHERE in the bible does it say about pleasing their OWN flesh is a sin! NO WHERE! So please remember that no matter how adament you are about this young boy NOT masturbating, it doesn't take away the fact that this CHILD of God is beating himself up when he shouldn't!

Ok. The replies on this pissed me off to no end, so I thought I'd clarify some things.

Also, I'm female, so keep in mind that the things I'm telling you are not coming from a dude and that my experience with masturbation is much different from your own. I'm 21 years old and have been married since April to a wonderful guy. I'm saying this also because I don't want you to think this is coming from some adolescent incapable of understanding the way "things work". I'm quite intelligent, and do know quite a bit about sexual aspects of life through study and classes.

Regardless, the following are some things I'd like to point out:

#1. Masturbation is NOT a sin. I am no priest(ess) and to be honest I do not practice Catholicism, though I was baptized Catholic at birth and have read the bible front to back. Masturbation is merely a way of relaxation and meditation to a degree- there may be those that disagree with me, and that is perfectly fine, but I know myself well enough to know that for me, at least - and many others I know of, masturbation does relax the body and mind. It allows an escape from the everyday stresses that everyone undergoes - and it doesn't require drugs or medications to work! Besides, there are a lot of things mentioned in the bible that - due to the way the world has changed since the days pen was put to paper to write this very eloquent piece of work - priests and pastors dismiss. Understand that the authors of the bible were merely writing parables and stories that were of their time, of which many are merely guidelines of the 10 Commandments - to treat people with respect and honor. Masturbation is definitely not a sin therefore, and if there are those that want to go on to say that "if you masturbate you will be destined for the second level of hell, Lust!" well I say "pshh" you're not harming anyone else, and as a victim of rape in the past, I can surely say that the man who violated me will go there, but I definitely don't see why anyone who's merely masturbating will be put in the same place. Get off your high horses people and wake up to the modern world! Things have changed! (I know that may be beyond many of you, and I'm truly sorry for your ignorance) Also, if you're saying that "God" gave us sexual feelings to merely multiply I think you must be kidding yourself. What about those individuals who are incapable of carrying children full term or carrying children at all - so then God must have given those people sexual feelings merely to be the mean kid in the lunch line at school who takes the last cookie. Right?

#2. Masturbation does not take away from your future sex life. Like I mentioned before, I am happily married (recently) to an army man. He's gone for 4-8 months at a time 1-2 times a year... a very long time to go without any pleasure in that regard... if I held out masturbating for the entirety of his next deployment, I'd most likely weigh 180 lbs when he came back from gorging myself on chocolate! (I'm 5'0... 180 is kinda big for someone my height) Maybe those idiots who say that it is taking away from their sex life are merely masturbating in place of having bed time with their significant other. Though there are times when my husband or I are just not in the mood and the other merely masturbates. Much better outcome than being cranky from the lack of.

#3. As long as masturbation is NOT taking up study or work time or time that you truly need to spend on other things than I see no reason why you can't do it. On my days off of work and my husband isn't home I do it. I have nothing else to do besides maybe some dishes or laundry and when that's all done I have time to myself. As long as you're not going overboard with it and making your "hand rule your time" you'll be fine.

#4. As for porn, it can be addictive... that's really all I have to say on that one, everyone else pretty much covered it. The next time you masturbate, use your imagination instead of watching something, chances are you'll have more fun.

#5. In the end it's up to you to decide. Don't let others talk you out of doing it because "it's a sin". If you want to stop, merely put your mind to it and stop. It can be difficult but if you persevere you will succeed. Therefore, do what you think is right for you.

Hey man, wow, almost exact same circumstances. You're not alone, but the Bible DOES, in fact, talk about it briefly as a sin, though indirectly. Here's the passage. Leviticus, especially 15:32

never forget your dreams my friend...never give them up.
Try for what you want in the end...not in an hour.

Never give up your God.
Remmember that your hand only do what you want.

OK! My Great Grandmother would be SO proud of me being a Seminary Student! BUT Leviticus is ALL about mens and womens "Bodily Flows and Discharges" Any discharge from a man or any discharge from a woman - outside her 7 day menstruation - is considered "unclean"! A woman is UNCLEAN while she is menstruating and If you touched her or sat on her bed etc you HAD to wash and become clean again - thus the old thoughts of a woman being "Dirty" Leviticus also talks about Leppers and secretions from their bodies and you also have to remember that back in biblical times there were MANY "Fluid Discharges" of one kind or another! Which would make people VERY sick and even die! So they were covering ALL of their bases and condeming ALL fluids from mans and womens bodies! If you take Leviticus 15 at its word ! ALL men who ejaculated are "Unclean" - which I agree with!!! XD ;-) ;-)

Please lets put this to rest?!! It is NOT a SIN! - at most all that can be found is it is "unclean" which I think we can ALL agree with!!! 8-|

MB and lust are sins... I'm in the same position as him. I'm 14, and can't stop. I always make promises to God and myself, and then the next day or week, I do it again. Besides porn blockers, and people telling me that it's natural to MB and it's okay, does anyone have tips for me to stop?

Hi honey! I KNOW you think you are sinning but you are NOT! Whomever tells you that you are sinning is TOTALLY misgiven about the subject! Lusting is a sin - after another's wife etc. BUT touching yourself or self pleasuring is NOT! It is NOT mentioned ANYWHERE in the Bible! Not ONE section does it state that self touch is a bad thing! Think about it this way, we stroke ourselves, touch each other, massage, carress, etc. So touching your genitals is NO different! Baby's do it in utero, children do it when born, and throughout their lives! They don't LUST! They don't have a clue about that! It's been proven that children touch themselves to bring comfort and to stop themselves being nervous! Sort of a sense of self! And you being 14, your entire body is not only doing normal things, BUT it is FULL of sex hormones! You can't help this! You can't stop blinking, you can't stop swallowing and you can't stop touching yourself! Even the most Pious of men have to physically punish themselves to get rid of such feelings! Not 1 of the 6 billion people on this earth has NOT touched themselves honey! It's impossible! Virtually ALL mammals do! So don't beat yourself up about it, it is NOT a sin! And I have had MANY people send me incorrect quotes from the bible stating that it says it is! BUT when you look at the actual passage, it only mentions about immoral acts - cheating, beastiality, molestation, etc.

You need to know honey, that in biblical times, there was TERRIBLE horrendous things happening, and the people that wrote the scriptures tried to cover ALL of the DIRTY things that happened! Some of the scriptures are SO vague, it is explained differently and there are LOTS of debates on what it was supposed to mean! IF it was a sin, don't you think it would be in the Testament or mentioned in the 7 deadly sins? I would think it would be honey! Don't you?! So PLEASE don't be so hard on yourself and know it is NOT against God! As God wouldn't have given us this ability to do it naturally and it doesn't explain fetus's doing it too!

Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost? When we gave our lives to God, we gave up our hands, feet, lips, etc. You are not your own anymore, but His, and you ought to do your best not to defile his temple with masturbation. It is true, we will fail God whether we like it or not, but the true mark of a strong Christian is his ability to get back up again and stay in the fight.

masturbation is wrong.Masturbation is very harmful mentally as well as physically. Research these harms and bear them in mind the next time you get the urge. Sexual desire is natural but full filling this desire by masturbation has some really bad consequences. So until you get married what you should do to stop your sexual desire from overpowering you is keep fasts often- not everyday, maybe once every week or twice or every 2 weeks etc.depending on your level desire

Hope this helps

Actually everyone doesn't continue doing it. If you feel convicted to stop then stop. Whatever the reason. For your computer get accountability software. It's free from ********. If you stop masturbating then your body will naturally take care of itself every week to month roughly through wet dreams which imo are better. Studies have shown a lower incidence of prostate cancer in men under 50 who abstain. Finally some ways to help you stop. For you as a believer in Jesus, pray to Him, read scripture, and worship through music. Put verses and crosses in places where you would normally have that urge. I taped a bible verse to the ceiling in my room so that when I wake up in the morning it was the first thing I saw and wrote a verse on the mirror in the bathroom. When the urge hits find something else to do until the urge goes away. Put a jar in your room and put ten dollars in it every time you do it and then give the money to your youth group. Just some ideas if you've made the choice to stop.
