my partner has rectal cancer and has had radiotherapy, the other day he felt like he was leaking something from his bottom and when he checked found it was a clear smelly liquid. It hasn't happend since. Do you have any idea why this would happen

Is the liquid like a mucous type of discharge?  This should be anything to worry about.  The bowel will form its own protective layer of mucous that helps protect it from harsh substances that may cause damage to the lining of the intestines.  It is a protective measure of what your body does for itself.  Is your partner eating much?  If there isn't any food in the digestive system, mucous may present itself more so than if there is stool present.  Probably with the radiation therapy, the intestines are putting out more mucous in response to it.  I hope this helps!
