I've had this for a while and i was constantly swallowing to check if it was still there and to try to make sense of what was causing it. This would just make it worse. I then thought that seeing as the throat and neck is comprised of numerous muscles, excessive swallowing would weaken the muscles, exacerbating the clicking. I then tried to cut out the swallowing of saliva and restrict swallowing to when eating or drinking. This combined with neck exercises helped me to stop the clicking in my throat.

If I press on the side of my hyoid bone I can see it popping out on the side of my neck like a small ball. (it works both right and left). Someone has the same problem?

I have been experiencing these very symptoms off and on for like two years, ill worry about it, then I stop myself in fear of hypochondria. Its uncomfortable, grosses me out when it pops when turning my head, and I panic when it becomes irritated more, like a dull pain when swallowing. When rubbing my fingers over it, it feels like a swollen lymphnode rolling under my finger!

I have good news and bad news. I have been experiencing all of the same symptoms as everyone here and finally saw an ENT doctor today. He looked down my throat and gave me a very good examination. Good news is it's not cancer. Bad news is there is no diagnosis for the problem. The clicking began about 4 months ago after I relocated to the Sacramento area from San Diego. The clicking in my throat was completely positional, meaning that if I swallow with my head looking left, right or looking up, My throat will not click when I swallow. I only feel the click when looking down or with my head looking straight ahead. The doctor said it will go away on its own OR it may never go away, and it could be caused from a number of different things. There is no solution that is known. It is untreatable. I've tried everything. I've read of doing neck rotations, neck exercises, I've even read an article where someone said they massaged their tounge, and like an id**t in the living room I was massaging my tounge. I know a lot of people are not going to like this but your just going to have to deal with it. I don't want to have this issue for the rest of my life but ultimately there's really nothing else I can do at this point. Hope this helps.

I to suffer from this annoying click. I noticed it after an injury I sustained while working out at the gym, I had an awful crick in my neck and when it went away I developed the clicking. I've had an xray, ultrasound, and a CT scan done to rule out any abnormalities. I can sometimes feel a lump but it's all in my head. The click comes and goes and sometimes is worse with the position my neck is in, and I happen to notice it more in the morning. I do suffer from GERD and I take PPI's twice a day and the doc said that this may contribute to the click. All I know is it's annoying and I really hope my doctor was right but now I can sleep better but I did take a heavy hit to my wallet... oh well hope this is helpful

Hello, everyone with a clicking throat. I'm 27 now and I've been having this problem for almost 4 years now. When it just started I was scared of something growing in my neck... It only clicks when I swallow with empthy throat, without food or liquid. Also, it's only on the right side, if I turn my head to the left it doesn't click. Only clicks with my head straight or turned to the right. I went to see many doctors like physicians and ENTs. I've spent a lot of money doing ultrasounds, endoscopies and CT scans, but still couldn't find the cause of this problem. I'm originally from Ukraine, so went there and had all the same test there again and still nothing. Most of the doctors who I've seen tried to convince me it's all in my imagination and related to stress. After 2 years of trying to find an answer, I finally figured out what it is. I found a good ENT who helped me. He said it's a very rear syndrom, kinda one the forms of human's anatomy, and noone knows why some people develop it. Only one way to treat this problem is to have a surgery, and it's not in the throat, it's in the neck, just feels like in the throat. He said that it doesn't effect my health and I would need a surgery only if it gets worse. It's been the same for 4 years, I'm use to it now and not worried about it any more. It's still there, but I don't even remember the feeling without the click, feels normal to me now. I did some researches and I found some information online about it. The name of it is Eagle's syndrome. If you haven't gone to the doctor yet and haven't been tested, it might be good to do so, just to make sure it's nothing to worry about. I wish good luck to everyone, and stay in health, it's our best gift from God!
