To the group of clickers ... I am going on two months and I've found that Ibuprofen definitely helps.  Why ?  ENT thinks its a bone spur and/or tendon snapping.  At the same time this came on, I had a change in my TMJ joint.  Instead of a pop in that area when I open jaw, it now crackles.  My theory is that this has something to do with that change (which happened at the same time this new click came upon me)  I feel that possibly a tendon or ligament in that area that is somehow involved in the swallowing.  It comes and goes, ibuprofen helps for sure, it's always there in the a.m. when I drink my coffee.  But after 2 months I can say that most days I barely notice it.  I wanted people to know there might be a light at the end of the tunnel ;)

That's what my ENT thinks as well. But she thinks I have a bone spur on the spine. Anyway - safe to say that after 2 months it is definitely subsiding.

It started out of the blue while eating a hamburger. Every swallow is a thud or a click that can be felt when throat goes up and down. It did feel to me like something was getting hung up in the swallow process.
Dry swallow, drinking, eating, didn't matter - it was always there.

have you had any imaging studies?
i can actually feel the side (horn) of my hyoid bone in my throat. Feels like something is misaligned or getting bumped out of the way.
my throat clicks during swallow. ENT said its rubbing against my spine. Although Ct scan did not show this. i dont know what else to do. its very distracting and anxiety provoking.

You can feel your hyoid bone if you look for it. I did not have CT - she felt like it wasn't necessary to expose myself to the radiation since my symptoms were markedly better when I returned for a 1 month follow up. If things had remained the same or if they return or get worse, then I'll have one. But fingers crossed it's much much better after 2.5 months now. I understand the anxiety. And I am a bit of a fatalist. Headache = brain tumor. I took ibuprofen faithfully for 2 weeks because I felt like that helped considerably. Also, someone on the thread mentioned rolling your head/neck around in a circle - like cracking your fingers - and when I notice it's starting - I do that too and I think that helps. Would make sense if it was a bone spur that that might help.

Has the clicking/poppoing gone away? I've had this now for going on 3 weeks and it's very distracting/annoying. Does Ibuprophen make the click go away?

I found that Ibuprofen definitely helped. Took it regularly for a couple of weeks. I still have it - notice it now and then, but the intensity is about 20% of what it had been. It doesn't occupy my mind 24/7. It was so annoying/distracting. I would notice it when dry swallowing just in conversation. It's been 3 months for me but at this point, I am not worrying about it like I did. I do think that it is a bone spur.
