Users comments and reviews on article Thyroid Symptoms and Problems in Women by Dana Fenton
I have been doing some research on hypothyroid issues during the last week and have found some things very interesting and shocking to me even though I thought I knew everything there was to know about thyroid disorders.
I am a 50yr old woman. At age 30 I was diagnosed with Grave's Disease and Hashimoto. I underwent radio idodine treatment and am now hypothyroid.
About ten years ago, at 40 yrs old, I started developing severe jaw pain. This pain continued to develop over time extending to my neck, then arm, etc. Now it appears that every muscle in my body is involved.
In the back of my mind I have always felt it was thyroid related but never had any proof. My TSH results were always good and I am faithful at taking my thyroid meds.
What really made me consider the thyroid being the issue is because my paternal side family have thyroid issues and they all seem to suffer from the severe "body aches" also. Doctors haven't found what is wrong with them either.
After 9 yrs of trying to find out what was wrong with me ( I had underwent treatment for TMJ, multiple physical therapy sessions, and C-5,C-6 cervicle disc replacement, tested for MS which came back negative) I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.
Doing research on thyroid, this past week, I have discovered that 44% of people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia have a thyroid issue. I discovered that both T-3 and T-4 levels need to be regulated correctly in order for the muscles to get the proper thyroid hormone to remain healthy.
Here is my issue and question: I already take Armour Thyroid which is T-3, T-4 thyroid hormone so why do I continue to have such an issue with my muscles? Is it even posible the two are related to one another?
I was just wondering if anyone could offer me some more information on this subject.
Or if anyone out there has thyroid disease and is suffering from the same ailments as me and my paternal family.
I really think I am on to something with this. I am tired of the everyday struggle and pain and would really like to help my doctor find the underlying issue so I can return to a normal life.
Any input would be wonderful.

ever since my doctor lowered my dose of levothyroxin to 150mg, i am now having hot flashes and night sweats, whats up with that?
You were most likely getting too much thyroid hormone and that was what was causing the hot flashes and night sweats.
When I was hyperthyroid, which would have been your case in a round about way from taking too much thyroid, I was boiling hot and sweating when it was 20 degrees! Once I went hypothyroid (not getting enough thyroid hormone) I was always cold. Just the side effects of thyroid issues.

thank you kariB for your input on my problem with hot flashes and sweats... ive been on levothyroxin 200mg for about 5 yrs, then i started seeing a new doctor, after 3 months, he lowered my rx to 175mg, things were fine, 1 month ago is when he once again lowered the dose to 150mg, and that is when my problem started, iam hypothyroid, so my thoughts are that it was because i was not getting high enough dose of levothroxin, i am 50yr old white female, already gone through the change,(never a problem with hot flashes or sweats) ive also have had a heart attack, which requried stint placement, also had a slient stroke which sent me back to childhood, took me awhile, but doctors finely got me stable with all my meds, with all that in play, what do you think now? my next appt is in march, should i call my doctor now or wait for my next visit to explain whats going on?
I'm sorry...I misread your post. I thought the sweats and hot flashes were before the thyroid was lowered not after.
Wow it sounds like you have been through quite an ordeal with your health and I can't help but believe that has something to do with the issues you are describing. Maybe your condition or the other medications you are taking are interfering with your thyroid dosage and that is why it is being adjusted. Did you have your heart attack and stint recently?
Best thing to do is explain to your doctor what is happening. It may be something besides your thyroid medication causing you the problem.
Sorry I can't be of more help and once again I'm sorry for misreading your former post.
Best of health to you.

I forgot to add...I'd call the doctor now just to be safe.
thanks again kariB for ur input, i had my heart attack about 7yrs ago now, my stroke about 4yrs ago, my whole problem realy started when i was lowered to 150mg of levothyroxin, that is why i am more apt to believe i am not on a high enough dose, that being because it was 2 weeks into the 150mg when the sweats and hot flashes satarted, ive been on all my other meds for about 7yrs, so i dont think there are conflicting with my reactions to the 150mg of levothyroxin, does that make any sense to you now? and i do believe i will touch base with my doctors office, my health is great outside of these new problems, happy health to you too, thanks again & have a good day.
I wanted to be skinny, and developed hyperthyroid. I like a little carnitas on a 30 something womens' bones. I just accepted me, with God by my side.
I didn't have surgery, just some live changing panic attacks.
I don't talk about it much, you understand...
Blessings.

Could night sweats be a symptom of thyroid disorders even if I am on the contraceptive pill?
