After my hemorrhoidectomy 5 mos ago, I tried to stop my bleeding by applying ice and splashing really cold water. However, I think I got my anal stenosis from that. My anal sphincter got contracted and so whenever I have my BM it couldn't relax and a hard stool worsens my condition as it tears up my anus. Doing sitz bath with salt 3 times a day and after BM is really a relief.

To heal my anal fissure from anal stenosis, my doctor told me to just increase my intake of fiber and fluid so that my stool will be really soft and it won't tear my anus again. But then, finding the right diet to eliminate constipation was really hard. It was a process of trial and error. However, I just recently discovered that eating barley would really make stool soft. Thank God for barley! In addition to eating fruits and vegetables, eating barley made my life wonderful! I now replace my white rice with barley. Also, I'm taking 400 mg of magnesium, 2 tablets of fish oil (sometimes flax seed oil), and 1000 mg of vit C at night. The following morning after I have my little walk and warm milk, I really go ...... and my stool is really soft like jelly without cramping or whatsoever that laxatives give.

Enjoy eating and eliminating everyone!

Is it internal hemorroids you are all talking about? I recently got an EXTERNAL one and am desperate to have surgery although I do not know much about it. I have cream that soothes the little pain that I get but I really really want rid of it altogether as it gives me a lot of discomfort. Can someone please help?

hi i had a surgery on my piles about 7 days ago. after the ops the stool really really small, like being slice up. but after 3 days suddenly the stool gets bigger size, just like the size of the second finger beside the thumb. i had to go toilet like 3-4 times for the first 5 hours and the pain was unbeareable for the first 3 days but still can control slightly a bit after that. After spoken from my doctor, she told me to stop my fybogel and lactose previously precript to me because i only had like 2L of water, about 1L of chinese herbs water that ceased the heatiness, cereal , 2 to 3 slice of breaad and 3-4 mouthful of porridge. The things worry me now is that i had those brown liquid coming out everytime. And when i try to clean it off every 30min or so, it seems like sticky and a bit jelly form. May i know whatt is that liquid? Is it a sign that i need to worry about?

I too had the H surgery about two months ago. I think I am getting better and then all of a sudden a rough bowel movement and I'm sore for days. I am so tired of the pain. I don't want to go back to my doctor because there is no way I can stand to be touched much less probed back there. I bleed everytime I use the restroom. Sitting in a warm bath eases the pain a little but even a small cough and I'm screaming. I have honestly considered not eating long enough for my behind to heal completely. But I know I can't do that. I should mention though that I used to take alli and it would help make loose stool and (not meaning to sound disgusting) but if you eat a little fat it would make your stool greasy and easier to pass. Just have to be extra careful not to ruin your clothes. I know the pain and when you're on the toilet praying to God for some relief, you'll do anything to get it. I'm almost willing to have a colostomy bag put on me. No, not really just trying to laugh about it, if not, I'd be crazy right now.

I highly recommend THD hemorrhoidectomy! Very easy, little discomfort and the problem has been solved for 1.5 years now - after suffering for 20 years! Search this forum or on-line for more!

I had surgery 4 months ago and still have pain, although not every day now, it does get easier going to the toilet , although i have to keep my motions soft, I am still off work and on pain relief, an now my surgeon says my internal wound has not healed, On my last medication now, which is a cream that gives you a violent headache, if you use too much, and you can only use it for 8 weeks, failing this she will look at me again in 2 weeks time, to see what can be done, I want my LIFE BACK..... :'(

Gill,
I've had good results from the Ultroid procedure. I had hems that would bleed and prolapse with each bm. I ended up having 4 ultroid treatments one month apart, last spring. The treatment lasts 10 minutes and the discomfort has varied, but afterward I went to work each time but stayed off my feet. I was sore for a few days after, but no pain with bm. I had a follow-up checkup recently, and so far so good. If you are looking for a non-surgical approach as I was, you may want to look into this.

I have lived with my hemms since the birth of my first in 87' and have gotten progressively worse. I am also 6 days post surgery and still having pain, very uncomfortable, and dread having bowel movements !! Sitz baths I agree don't help enough and all the meds do is make me sleep ! I am miserable ! I would not recommend surgery unless your on the verge of death ! Can't sit , don't want to eat but I'm hungry. I sure hope it ends up being worth it but not soon enough for me. >;) >:( :'(

So sorry about the rough recoveries...
I can only reiterate for others - the THD surgery was easy, recovery was quick and a Tylenol was all I needed for about 5 days. It's been two years and I have had my life back since the day of surgery. I didn't even have full general anesthesia. Very very easy solution to a miserable problem (internal hems).

Well six days out is too early to expect no pain at all. I had this surgery with internal and external last September and they were pretty bad too. I will say the pain relief (Percocet) just makes you a zombie, tylenol extra strength was the best. The pain during BM's is the worst thing ever, but after two weeks it wasn't too bad, bearable. After a month everything was back to normal, occasional bleeding but nothing terrible. I have a normal anus at last no pain after BMS anymore. You do not realise how bad it really was until you have recovered from the surgery and you can do exercise, painting and decorating all the things you used to do and have to suffer afterwards because the activity would aggravate the hems. Now I can do all the things i want to without worrying about my butt!
Believe me you will be happy you had this surgery in a month or so!

Jubilant, how was your stenosis. I had a hemorrhoid surgery last year October, I am also suffering from stenosis. The doctor asked me to self dilate each time I go to toilet. It works some time but once in a while I have to take laxative to force it out.
Did you finally get out of this torture? How? Please help if anyone knows what to do. I don't want another surgery.

I'm diagnosed with stenosis after a stapler hemorrhoid surgery 2 months ago. i'm due for dilatations under ga anytime next week. The last one months, we have been trying on fibre drinks (fybogel) with stool softener 10-15ml and once a week digital dilatations but showed very little progress. Each time we manage to dilate it abit but come next week, it will shrink back. So i'm hopeful this dilatations under ga will fix this problem.

I had a hemorrhoidectomy 7 days ago. In the first 3 days after surgery, I felt not bad. The nightmare came when I had the first bowl movement on the 4th day. It is so painful and unbearable. I went to the bathroom four times. I had a lot of discharge because I thought the surgery was ok and ate normal size of food. I used Sitz bath, which was helpful, but the pain can still kill me. The whole day was horrible after the first bowl movement.

After the first pain, I started to take stool softener regularly. The second bowl movement happened on Saturday morning, very painful too, but better than Thursday.

I had third bowl movement on 7th day. Because I took stool softener around 6 pm, the bowl movement started around 1 am. I went to bathroom three times and cannot fall sleep, and I always felt that I had stool  around the area of anus. It is difficult to pass the gas.

My problem is not serious before surgery but I want to remove the problem before I am going to have a second child. The decision is totally wrong.
