I had my surgery may 31 and i am actually still bleeding a little and have blood in my stool. My doctor is having me go in for surgery again this week to double check if its anything that went wrong during the previous surgery. If not I have to have a colonoscopy. Has anyone else bleed this long? My stools went back to normal but they were very painful for about 2 months.

Vivian, best if u talk to your doctor again. You may want consider 2nd corrective surgery. I did my second surgery and in much better situation now. Altho not the same like before surgery but I still could go.. Before I can't even go! Totally off laxative but had to take alot of fruits and vegetables. Mine was stenosis at the stapler line so the doc just cut one end of the stapler ring to release wat is holding all the skin together hence making it narrow. I'm not sure whether yours is same as mine but my doc did a great job by thoroughly reviewing my condition making me better understand wat I am dealing with rather than just reading fr posts in Internet which is confusing most of the times. Better speak to your doc abt wat options u hav and if he can't help, keep finding one that can! I recommend any doc frm colorectal surgeon expertise. Good luck and god bless...

I had laser surgery to remove 5 hemorrhoids 2 weeks ago. Having a BM during the 1st week was unbearable. The pain is much worse than labour (I have 2 sons) and felt I would pass out every time. But it does get better with time. Initially, the excruciating pain came while having the BM. Little Relief came with jumping into a hot tub and alternating hot and cold compress at different time (no particular pattern). Post BM recovery took between 2 to 6 hours depending on the nature of the poop. After the 2nd week, pain during BM is bearable, however, the real pain comes starts a few minutes after and lasts for about 4 hours. I find that my anus seems somewhat narrower and so I have to strain to pass very narrow poops. The restriction seems to be from the anorectal area. Still seems inflamed / swollen. Hope this gets better with time. I'm focused on that light at the end of the tunnel!

I had my surgery 1 month ago and I am still in a lot of pain when I go to the restroom. I had the internal and external hemorroids removed. I was feeling better and had even went back to work. I wasn't taking any pain pills. It still hurt to have a bm but I would just lay in the tub til it went away. Well that was til I went to the doctor Tuesday and he checked me! I thought I was going to pass out. He said it was to make sure it wasn't healing to tight. He said it was okay. I too am only having small around bms but the way they hurt u would think they were the size of my arm! I am ready for this to be over! When I see some of u still having pain after 5 months I want to cry somemore... well I am just going to pay everything heals up quickly and right. Good luck to everyone and their bottoms ;)

I had the THD hemorrhoidectomy which is just sutures only, no cutting, for internals. There was bleeding at about a month as the hems sloughed. No pain after the first couple of days. No pain at sloughing or at follow up exams. So for THD some late bleeding is normal.

Why are you still having small round poops? Sounds like you need a LOT more fiber in your diet. Have you tried Metamucil? It's not medication. It's simply a fiber supplement (psyllium husk). Assuming you had a good colorectal surgeon (not general surgeon) and you don't have anal stenosis (from getting too much hemorrhoid tissue cut out, hence good surgeon), then I'm surprised your BMs still cause you so much pain after 1 month.

I'm not an expert, but from what I read, and from what my surgeon told me, people who still experience significant BM pain 4 weeks post op is typically attributed to anal stenosis (narrowing of the anal canal). This is caused by too much of the hemorrhoid tissue being removed. But in your case, it sounds like you'd do well to just get some more fiber in your diet.

I had surgery a little over a year ago and I have had problems with constipation which I think was due to my surgery. I don't use laxatives which I should because by straining alot I'm back to the same problem and I sure don't want to go in for surgery again ! That dilating thing might be a good idea though, not pleasant but it should help...

I had surgery to have both internal and external hemorhoids removed 7 years ago. My surgery was a success for the most part. After about a week things were pretty normal. No pain and no bleeding. The problem i have is both embarrassing and frusturating. Every time i have a bowel movement and wipe. I can Never get clean. I can wipe 20 times n go bk to use the restroom again and it seems as though i never wiped. Its the same when i take a shower after a BM. I always use disposable wipes to feel somewhat clean but i still have the same problem. I went bk to my surgeon once and he recommended going back in. Im terrified of another surgery and wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem. Thks for reading!

It is nice to see people  who had similar surgery, sharing their experience.

I had my surgery done almost 2 weeks ago now,  3 hemorrhoids removed that i had since childhood, I am 33 now, and  to mention my doctor told me , most people go back to work in 3 days. This was not true, I am still in pain. He must have been joking.

The   surgery was the most painful surgery I ever had. I was so sick, in pain, agony, that I felt sometimes passing out. I had so many pain killers, but it did not help. the doctor prescribed to me more powerful pain killers,(Endone, 5mg)  but he warn me  it may give me constipation, I did not take them. The first three days were worse torture. The first day, I could not urinate, but with sitz ups, baths, I was OK.

I am not sure what impacts this also has on sex, the muscles are all interconnected, if u can not urinate properly, sex? Will see.

My advice to people planing for this surgery is , if it is not  a major problem, please don't do it.

Post surgery, the trick is not to get constipation. make sure you drink plenty of water, and fibre, I avoided solid food the first week. and I had 100s of sitz up baths, they are really good. I  lost 8 KG.

I am going back to see the surgeon in  a week, for check up. I am still in pain, though each day getting better, wonder when I will fully recover.

Good luck

I had surgery 11 days ago. I must say I've been very lucky. At first my pain was intense and obtain relief with one or two Tramadol daily for three days. I took salt baths every day and still do..this has calm the pain a great deal. After three days without a bowel movement I was worried. I called Health Link on Alberta and the nurse suggested taking mineral oil..1 to 3 tablespoon at night. I had take 2 glasses of Metamucil during the day and I topped that with 2 tblespoon of mineral oil that night. The next day I had a normal bowel movement with tolerable pain. I never had to take anything since..my bowel movement are soft and up to 2 or 3 daily. I will be seeing my doctor next Thursday for a check up.

Hi. I had surgery 8 months ago and am now 95% healed. Sitting here typing this there is only very minor discomfort, I'm delighted to say. The healing process has been extremely slow. I had 5 months of discomfort, where sitz baths would provide blissful temporary respite, but afterwards the discomfort would soon return. The only way to get through the day was to take substantial walks. I became very fit. Going to work was out of the question. Fortunately the discomfort wore off in the evening, letting me get to sleep naturally. Comfort increased following a botox injection 3 months ago. Emptying bowels completely was a problem. It seemed to me that passing motions would make the area tender and swollen, and because I could not empty myself completely any material left behind irritate the area further. How to completely empty my bowels? I took to giving myself mini-enemas to flush my-self out.   This procedure was very effective - no more poo hanging around inside me - what bliss! I used disposable catheters and 50ml syringe from ebay. I previously tried douches  but found the larger nozzles too uncomfortable. Together with lactulose to keep the motions soft, Protosedyl (Hydrocortisone and Cinchocaine) ointment to relieve and numb the irritated tissues, and Procto-Glyvenol (Lidocaine hydrochloride and Tribenoside) cream I devised an effective regime to reduce discomfort. I do hope this is of some use to some fellow sufferer.

Until now I tried this to all my patients and has work always by now. For your constipation problem use the following:

Use 1 Tbs with at least 8oz of liquid of fiber therapy (Equate) from Walmart because is the cheaper i have seen around but you can use whatever you want thats composed of Psyllium fiber. At least 1 pear daily. 1 suppository of glycerine every 12 hours to help soft your stools. NO LAXATIVES, that usually worsen your condition with chronic use. A lot of water daily. Diet with fiber, no fat and irritants. And if you havent gone to the toilet for a while is preferred to use a water enema. And last if you are gaseous can use gas X or any cheaper simeticone three times a day. With all that TOGETHER hope to have relieve.
