to all them folk who think mouthwash and brushing is enough NO IT IS NOT! I read this months ago and the best advice on here is to get in there with a torch and squeeze the stuff out with your finger or some tool of your choice(no not a screwdriver but something you think is sensible. remember your tonsils are quite soft and bleed easily) ! its the only way. its horrific and may give you nightmares to begin with but after a while it becomes routine so you have to do it otherwise there will be relatively little change with the breath!

It's vial isn't it, like something rotting in there. Did know it caused bad breath though. Now i'm worried I'm one of those stink people that no-one want to take to just incase..!!

They do smell don't they. I just coughed one up and thought "Damn, I've had enough of this, what is it..!!"

Now I'm worried about my breath though, can you smell your own breath when it is bad? Or as it's so close to the nasal passage can you not smell it because your used to it?

you got to press your tonsils regularly until the stuff comes out! ideally every day ! you ll be disgusted and amazed.. use a torch and the same hand for the side you are doing.. once its out your breath will be normal !

I tend to get these stones in series when fighting off a cold or flu. They also help as an early warning sign that my body may have been fighting off a bug. Sometimes I will spit them up and hour later I feel noticeably better, while other times they seem to be a precursor to getting full blown sick.

I always thought of them to be accumulated chunks of sickness my body had killed and was discarding. Like throwing a carcass from a bridge, ei; my mouth.

Thanks for asking this! I was curious my self. I somehow had the feeling it was normal, but I didn't know what it was, or why I was getting them. The first time I coughed one up, I was seriously freaked out, although I think it was a little bigger than a pea... (or maybe its an exaggeration thought up by my pre-adolescent mind?) When my mom saw me cough one up, she said it was from not brushing my teeth, which I seriously doubted, since I brushed regularly. It happens from time to time, and finally curiosity won.

I would like to work mine out but it feels like they are a little farther down my throat, both when they are stuck and when i can work them up. Could this mean that i have damage to my esophagus near the adams apple or might i just have freakishly low tonsils?

They are tonsil stones, they are nothing to worry about.
