Few years back a surgery to check my ovaries were done. I have been taking 2 mg of estrogen because of premature menopause, but Initially, I was given progesterone. I discontinued progesterone later because I do not have a uterus. Since then I am experiencing some tenderness in my breast and I felt a lump in my left breast. Is the breast tenderness and lump an indication of cancer? Can I take a mammogram? Is breast cancer a hereditary problem?
Estrogen is the cause of increased tenderness in your breast I would say, but that lump is strange too. . And the prolonged use of estrogen or progesterone is not advisable at your age. The two most common types of benign breast lumps are cysts and fibroadenomas. A cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops in the breast tissue and such cysts typically occur in women between when they approaching menopause. They often enlarge and become tender and painful just before the menstrual period. Cysts are caused by the hormones that control the menstrual cycle. If you have a cyst, your doctor may drain it to help relieve the pain and confirm the diagnosis. I doubt that is breast cancer, breast cancer can be hereditary but benign breast lumps are not hereditary.
