My father was a drunkard. I don’t like to say it like that but it is a fact. Now he has started with therapy which will help him stop drinking. Alcohol withdrawal is not something you can do easily after drinking for 20 years. Doctor says that there is possibility of delirium tremens occurring. Can somebody tell me what it is?
The term delirium tremens refers to delirium (mental confusion with fluctuating levels of consciousness) along with a tremor, severe agitation, and autonomic over activity (e.g., marked increases in pulse, blood pressure, and respirations). It is most likely to develop in patients with concomitant severe medical disorders or evidence of underlying brain damage. But it is extremely rarely to occur.
