What causes denaturation of proteins? Distinguish between permanently and temporarily denatured proteins. Provide examples of each.
Hello hlittle,
What causes denaturation of proteins. Proteins are sensative to heat and pH. Both can cause alterations in the overal protein structure. Generally, once a protein is denatured it can return to its normal structure. Consider a raw egg. The clear part is water and albumin (protein). When you fry the egg (apply heat to it). the clear part turns white and solid. That is the albumin denatured. If you can figure out how to undenature it, I think you might win a Nobel Prize.
