I agree with what guest has posted, especially in light of other information I've heard about Depo and all the trouble it causes for people. I think that being on the pill gives you more control over what you're doing than the shot, and there's usually less random spotting like this too. Does this help at all?

My daughter will be 6 in July and I went on depovera soon after she was born.
I have been off it now for 18 months and NOTHING. My doctors fobs me off any time I ask him about it saying it's normal and it will become regular again. I'm really quite concerned. I came off it thinking I would be fertile again in 6 months but I don't want my daughter to be an only child!

Yea I'm only 17 and my mom started me on Depo with out my knoledge before i even had two periods under my belt. That was over 4 years ago, i deal with the same bleeding problem, am I healthy?? My doctor says its normal but i dont believe it is, it freaks my boyfriend out, and i can never tell when it is going to happen... I'm scared that it isnt normal at all and could be covering up an underlying problem. HELLPP!!!!

I had one Depo shot in mid '09, round 1 and a half years after having my daughter. It took 7 months for me to get a period, and even then it was just browny and thick.

Now I'm getting very watery and light periods every 2 weeks. I'm at the point where I'm constantly paranoid and checking to see if I'm bleeding again. I would love to just go to a doctor and ask if I'm ok, but we're currently living overseas and Depo Provera is actually unavailable, thus the doctor will more than likely have no idea.

find it funny that all of us are posting our problems, yet no one has come through with a possible answer? hope anyone that looks this up in the future takes into consideration... you will never be the same again. don't fix what aint broke!

I really hope that doctors stop giving this shot to young women!! if you are on it now STOP!!! yes the freedom you have while on it is nice, meanwhile it is eating away at your ovaries and you will be lucky to get pregnant again. I took the shot for 3 1/2 years and while on it i had no side effects at all. Me and my husband have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years since going off the shot. I didnt get my period for 1 year after, i went to my gyno to see what i could do to help and they discovered a baseball sized cist on my left ovary and had to remove my left ovary and now i am told that the chemicals in the depo can cause that. everyone i have talked to says about 3 years is usually when you get pregnant after your last shot so my fingers are crossed! and my husband was tested and he is perfect, so its just me :-( But i dont understand why they are still giving this shot to people, its ok if you never want to get pregnant again but if you are young and may possibly want to, then go on the pill because it is just a horrible drug!!! hope this was helpfull and i could really use some happily ever after stories :-)

First off I would like to say that the depo shot has literally saved me. My menstrual cycles were so bad that I was bedridden for at least the first 3 days and I'm very tanned but would have a milk white complexion due to it.

The thing that most people don't realize is that every women's hormone levels are different. I was on the pill before and due to the high doses of hormones I was acting crazy and couldn't control my emotions. Everything triggered either tears, happiness to sobbing for hours and anger.

The brown coloured discharge is due to the endometrium not being able to slough off properly like in a normal period.

And YES! THERE ARE RISKS! THERE ARE RISKS TO EVERY SINGLE MEDICATION YOU TAKE...and this people tend to forget.

I have a great relationship with my doctor, and I asked him about coming off depo. It does take time. A depo shot is meant to even keep someone that is 300 lbs to not get pregnant. And because it is a slow release medication is takes time for it to get out of your system. And due to the lack of hormones (no more depo) the human body has to cope with it and therefore try to find its natural rhythm again.

I am studying to become a pediatrician and really I hate to believe doctor's would shrug off a patient, but really is it truly the dr's fault for presenting you with options (depo or pills, etc) and you chose depo? Dr's are responsible for preserving the life of their patients and informing them of all the possible consequences.

But for the original post. I would also like to remind you that coming off the depo will make you feel a bit emotional. You will be able to have children again, if you have doubts ask your dr about it, get a fertility test (?) Depo gives the body the ability to have stability in your hormones and therefore leveling out the pms symptoms. So coming off, this is a normal reaction. If your dr is one of those who doesn't care, seek another dr, or get a referral to a gynecologist.

There are many wonderful dr's and specialists out there. And we can all give you our story and our advice, but in reality it is up to you seeking the professional medical attention that you need. Don't give up!

i dont even have an answer for your questions. I was on depo for 6 months i gained a total of 35 pounds. That was terrible. I bled all the 6 months i took the injection. I stopped taking it in march 2012.i bled from march to mid august. I had unprotected sex and now i m having huge cramps and abdominal bloating. i dont know if i am pregnant or not. does anybody here have an idea or was in that situation also?

It just means that you're gonna spot probably throughout. Thats what happened to me. I spotted throughout the whole 3 months of my depo.

I turned 18 in may 2012 and me and my fiance have been together 6 years.... I have been on depo since I turned 16 and I weighed 127 now I weigh 173 its really hard on my body because I have arthritis in my knees and I am also diabetic... doctors say the wieght gain has nothing to do with the depo... yea right!!! I recently stopped my depo about a month or two ago and have felt depressed, frequent migranes, and throwing up almost everytime I eat... my doctor prescribed me prozac for bipolar and depression... I think taking prozac and depo made my mood swings worse I was and am constantly crying waking up after hours of trying to fall asleep in fright or crying my fiance is worried and I am also about these symptoms... I have not had my period or spotting but I have done my fair share of research and learned it can take 6 to 18 months just for my body to be vnormal again... my cousin took depo for years and she can now not have children she has to go through the incinimation(sp) and has lost multiple children but wound up with a beautiful daughter after paying LOTS of money! I am worried I to will have this problem
