I got the depo shot feb. 7th, march 3rd started a light spotting period and thought this is awesome, barely any period!!! Not quite,, that was just the beinging... i bleed from then on.. the bleeding gets worse and brown in color and then back to dark. No sort of real "period" showing up.. i saw my doctor at the end of April she said there's nothing she can do.. but offer me another shot.. maybe that will help maybe not.. or i can take the pill and hope that works (but i had excessive bleeding with the pill in the past so that scares me to try) since then i have been bleeding .. dark and light and brown.. and recently i have had a day break and then a week period that had cramping so i thought i was safe.. it stopped for 2-3 days and now came back and hurts and it's super heavy. I don't know what to do or when this will ever stop!!!! My boyfriend has been wonderful about the whole thing but i can tell he's getting tired of it.. I am too!!! Why don't they forewarn you of this. i had problems before and no one ever said anything to me about this as a possibility. i would rather risk a pregnancy than this...that sounds bad i know.. i love kids and want them sooner than later but i just wanted to be sure that my boyfriend and i didn't get "stuck" in a situation.. but now I'm certain it would be fine and we would be happy about it. Sorry to rant this is just killing me. >;) >;) >;)
I am not personally familiar with depo or its side effects. I looked into going on depo earlier this year but decided against it because I heard that it could cause allot of side effects and that it can be very hard to conceive after using it for birth control. The reason I am replying is that I noticed at the bottom of your post you indicated that you wanted to have kids sometime soon. So I wanted to give you the link that helped me decide on whether to take depo. Allot of people complain of having a horrible time trying to conceive after taking the shot. I don't mean to scare you. Some people have no problem at all. But it seems like doctors don't give you all the facts when they introduce depo as a form of birth control. My Dr. never told me about these side effects and I had to do the research myself and decided against it. You may want to get back on the pill to help regulate your periods (maybe a low hormone one)? Or maybe condoms would be a good option for you since it wouldn't mess with your hormones at all. You could always try charting and doing the rhythm method since you aren't opposed to getting pregnant. There is obviously a higher risk of pregnancy using the rhythm method since there is no protection except knowing your own body and when it is safe to do it. It definitely wouldn't be fool proof and would need to be something you talked to your boyfriend about ahead of time in case there were any accidents. I hope you figure something out and everything gets back to normal soon! :)

hi Im ana im 25 yrs., when i was 18 I got the depo shot as a contraceptive and I got another 3 mo. after and that was it, I didnt get my menstrual(pms) for about 2 yrs. at all, then I would get my pms about every 3-4 mo. for about 1 1/2 yr., then it stoped again for almost a yr. until I saw a doctor and she gave 5 pills some kind of hormones to start my pms again and it did but it lasted about a month and heavy period I would us adult diaper and it would still not protect me for the night so I went to hospital and they told me I had menorrhagia(heavy period) and they told to see my doctor but after some days it went away and it stoped for a while and again i had heavy period for about a month then it stoped again but not so long after that I started having my pms for 3 days and small spoting and would go away for 1-2 weaks and would come back it happen often for some mon.,then it was everyday and it started flowing more I had heavy pms for 3 mo. and got a little anemic a Doc. in mexico gave me a medicine called LUTORAL-E gave and birth control pills so I was to take Lutoral-e just to stop bleeding and use birth control pills to regulate my period but it did not work for me so am just using the pills LUTORAL-E I havent seen my doctor since dec. 2008 I was suppose to see her in jan. 09 but I haven went to mexico (the reson I see a Doctor in mexico is becuase I dont have insurence and it expencise in usa, if u see a doctor in mexico look for a good doctor not just any)but the doctor had told me if a continued with the problem she had to do a cleaning of the uterus it the same cleaning when u get an abortion.I am planning of doing that and hoping it works. I have had this for long time and many emberresing and stressful moments in the street and with my husband. and another thing is that all this time I havent used protection and I havent gotten pregnant, and I want to concieve but first I want to fix the pms problem. so I would not recomend the depo shot to any one plus it made me gain weight

Hi there kelly, I am wondering if you can tell me a little more about the rhythm method? I actually haven't heard much about it but I know that if you use it along with condoms that you may be doing better than nothing at all. What can you tell me about it?
