Hello,

I've been having very strange period the past few months... the first day of my period, I often get a lot of pain, diarrhea, and hives that start on the back of my neck and ears and move around my body. I'm wondering if it's allergy related -- I've been on a gluten-free diet for about 9 months, but sometimes I notice my period won't come unless I eat something with wheat (although I still get the cramps sometimes with no wheat b/f period). I am also a vegan, so maybe that's it? I've always had intestinal issues of some form, though, either being constipated or just getting stomachaches after I eat.

It's weird because I get really constipated before my period, and then... you know. It's gross. Anybody having similar issues or know anything that might help?

many women get diarrhea with their periods its very common. The Hives often occur just pre period or when a period starts as its due to hormonal changes - specifically a drop in progesterone - try taking natural progesterone cream for a couple of days prior to getting your period and see if that makes a difference

Alie, have you tried the progesterone creme for this? Just wondering if it works. Just bought some and this is the third day on it. The true test will be right before my period. We'll see.

yes, its helpful. I don't get hives but I do get terrible hayfever if in its spring just a couple of days before I get my period which is basically also an allergic reaction same as hives. Manganese is also helpful for the hayfever - about 5 -10mg per day for about 3 days before. It also helps to reduce cramps. Also with progesterone you'd have to stop it about a day before your period is due otherwise it would probably come late.

Manganese might be worthwhile trying for the hives also along with progesterone - its mentioned in this article as being helpful along with some others
