Hi All, I recently underwent a very painful foot surgery with 4 procedures done to the foot (March 8 in BC Canada). My surgical doctor, Orthopediac Surgeon specialty in Foot and Ankle and only prescribed Tramadol 10mg, the surgery was on Friday and he does not have after hours phone number and my family doctor was not available either on saturday - I needed extra pain relief. I made the decision to up my pain meds from every 8hrs because of no relief to every 2hrs, started to wreck my stomach lining. Monday, get an appointment with my family doctor and she sticks with Tramadol but includes Percocets 5mg 4 times a day. It did OK for pain relief except at nights my pain intensified and I was in tears with no pain relief even when I upped the amounts of pills. Fast forward to yesterday another appointment with family doc and she prescribes Dilaudid - finally some relief. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a great pain relief.
Just an update on this post.
I am now 5 weeks and 2 days away from being a month and a half. I still take 2 perc's a day for pain, one in the morning and one in the evening. I find the changing temperatures the worst on my foot for pain. I live in BC, Canada where the temperatures fluctuate all the time from rain one day, to freezing the next and sunny and warm after that and then back to cold.
When the pain gets unbearable or I find that the perc's aren't working I switch to a half a 4mg diluadid. That really helps and then the perc's kick in again after this. It's nice to switch to something different. I also ingest pot butter to get a body stone which helps relax the pain receptors naturally.
Next week Monday, April 22nd, I find out if my midfoot is fused well enough to start walking. I have an autoimmune disease which slows down my healing processes so I am getting resigned to the fact I am going to hear the words, it's not fused enough and you need another 2 - 4 weeks of non-weight bearing. I am still trying to think positive as when I do my exercises it doesn't hurt, so that's something isn't it?
Anyways, I'll update again after I start bearing weight as that is going to be another and totally different ball game again when we are talking about pain. I'll be thankful that I still have pain meds and can up my dose again.
