Hi i am another one suffering with this staining. I read it has something to do with the ph level in the body and if you suffer from dehydration, which I do. Same as most on this site, only in black underwear. I believe that it must just counteract with that dye colour, even happened to bleach my black cotton leggings! I am thinking, I am going to avoid buying black from now on, well at least the cheaper black ones especially, as I have been buying them since, to cut the cost of keep buying knickers at such a rate! Seems to be following the same patterns of colour underware, so maybe thats one key answer?

It's actually to do with your ph levels some women have a more acidic discharge. Only solution is to wear panty liners.

So look, I know that I can't make you feel not embarrassed about discharge buildup, but I sure wish I could. Because discharge is actually a thing we should totally celebrate—it's a function of the vagina's self-cleaning mechanism and we should be leaping about with great pride crowing about the magic our vaginas can do! "Pardon me, Bob, but does your wang have a self-cleaning function? No? I THOUGHT NOT!" [WAVES VAGINA WAND]

Speaking of that self-cleaning function, we should ring the Health Class 101 bell! This'll be fast and done in broad strokes, because this is a cleaning column and I think we can all agree that after sitting through Sex Ed as teenagers, we needn't spend a lot of time revisiting that experience. With that, here's the quick discharge rundown: Vaginal discharge is a mucous that contains protein, acids (amino and otherwise) and carbohydrates.

It's the acid levels that cause the "bleaching" effect noted by one of our LWs. Your vaginal discharge can have a pH level of anywhere between 3.5 and 8 (7 being neutral, or base)—and it will vary depending on your cycle, how much bang-bang you're having, where you are in your monthly cycle and on the makeup of your hoo-ha. A "healthy" pH level falls in the lower, or more acidic, end of that range.

Generally, in the days immediately after your period ends, your discharge will be on the whiter side of things, while around the time of ovulation that discharge will turn clearer—but it will likely also get heavier. Just like with pH levels, this can vary quite dramatically from ladypart to ladypart.

Wow..I was searching about this condition and lo & behold I never would have imagined how many have same issue.  I thought something was horribly wrong with me for years.  I was thinking what could be in my vaginal area that could leave bleach like stains in my panties.  Thanks for the results, I'm going to google how are bodies produce peroxide like  substance.

It's totally natural. The vagina excretes mucus in order to keep itself clean which is actually pretty cool. It contains proteins and amino acids and carbohydrates and the pH can vary quite a lot depending on your cycle and the make up of your downstairs. If it's bleaching your underwear it'll be because your hoo-haa's mucus is on the extreme side, acidic or basic (not quite neutral pH) and will be taking the colour out of the fabric, like a bleach. It's nothing to be embarrassed about, if you asked the majority of girls everywhere would be able to empathize. It also has nothing to do with weight. You could be a size XXXS or XXXL and it'd still happen. One of those "perks" of being a girl.

Vaginal discharge is acidic enough to bleach black underwear. A healthy pH is anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5 (4.5 being the pH of beer) and so, sometimes causes the bleached effect. It's normal, actually, to have your underwear be bleached by discharge.
