My husband had a first attack of diverticulitis. He was briefly hospitalized for intravenous antibiotics, and since then has been taking them. Beside from the pain of the attack, he has a severe reaction to the antibiotics. He was constantly vomiting until he was forced to stop taking them. The doctor then prescribed him other drugs that he was better able to tolerate. His pain is much less severe but he is still not well and it has been four weeks now, although his doctor has now told him to stop taking them even though he is still in some pain. I am interested to hear if anyone experienced similar diverticulitis attack.

I am a 47 yr old, female. I had my first diverticulitis attack past summer and I felt very ill from the antibiotics as well. I took them to avoid getting another infection but ended up getting another attack several months later. I have had three more attacks after that even though I am careful of what I eat. My advise to you is when you are taking medication is to have at least 50 ounces of water a day and eat very light for days, for example, mashed potato, yogurt, vanilla pudding. This seems to work for me.
