do you think that 0ne hour 45 minute detention is too long of a punishment ?

A couple of weeks before we broke up for the christmas school holidays i got an after school detention as a punishment for messing around in class, as i am normally a good girl and this is my first detention i didnt know what to expect, we finish school at 315pm those in detention were told to go to the detention room for 320pm , there were about 25 of us in detention, first we had to line up outside the classroom in TOTAL silence, we then  had to do our collars up and make sure our ties were neat and tidy, only then we were allowed to go into the classroom, we then had to sit at our desks and face the front, the detention teacher then took the registrer and gave out the punishment essays , i had to write a 3 page essay on why its important to behave in class , we had to sit in TOTAL silence and do our work, we got out of school nearly 2 hours late it was a VERY long and dull punishment, i thought we could do homework in detention , but we had to write essays instead, detention is HORRIBLE ?
