my father in law was diagnosed with bladder ca in oct & had a cystectomy & prostatectomy performed. the urologist stated that 2 of the 18 lymph nodes removed were precancerous and everything was fine and sent home. however now we just found out dec 14 that he now has stage iv bone met from the bladder ca. how do you go from being fine to stage iv. the oncologist stated cant cure the bone ca but can cure the bladder ca isnt that prolonging the inevitible- is it worth going through chemo if you only have 6 mths to 1 yr.
Chemo may be worth if it helps him live for a while longer...Some cancer can spread more quickly than others, and can come back without notice....The best resource that I have found for myself is the national cancer society they are very educated in all types of cancer and stages...They can give you advice and may provide other treatment options...I would deffinitly look them up and give them a call.....Im very sorry to hear about your father in law, and what your family is going through right now....I wish you all the very best!!!

Please accept my sincerest sympathy. My father is also in the same boat.He just had a major operation to remove his bladder and prostate onlY to learn that the cancer has spread to his bones and lungs. Our oncologist explained that it is either quality or quantity of life for him. Chemo will only make him suffer and will not extend his life by much. He has opted for quality. He would rather spend what time he has left not being sick. Bladder cancer is the worse. My dad had a small tumor in November of 2008. In January 2009 the tumor had grown as large as his bladder and had invaded his bones and lungs. I don't understand. I would love to hear back from you. How are you dealing with everything? How old is your father-in-law?

My uncle is going in for his bladder to be removed after being diagnosed with bladder cancer. I would like to be prepared - what could go wrong? Can you share any experience with this type of surgery?
