I am 38 and have never had a weight problem.  I was put on ability about 8 months ago and gained about 30 pounds.  I exercised and ate right and did notice i was hungry all the time but regardless I seemed to keep gaining weight...fatty weight.  This only contributed to my depression so I decided to take myself off of it about a month ago and I have since lost 10 pounds.  I have always had a great metabolism...trust me ability causes weight gain, I don't care what anyone says.

Yes! Abilify causes rapid weight gain! I finally refused to take the Abilify with Lexapro, and changed medications altogether. I currently take Viibryd, and am hoping it doesn't affect weight. Abilify was a nightmare for me!

I wish you people who post would mention your age, gender and if you are near menopause because these factors also effect weight gain.

Hello, I too have gained weight from Abilify. I excercise and did Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers...nothing seems to work very well. I went off the Abilify a week and a half ago and am still bloated and lost weight only to gain two pounds back over night. How are you doing now>

I had been on Cymbalta for several years with no weight change. The depression got worse, so it was augmented with Abilify 2mg/day. This was 11 months ago. The good: It quickly (1-2 weeks) helped with the depression. I have always been normal weight and sometimes slightly underweight. I am a male 5'10", and in the 11 months of taking Abilify I went from 155 to 180 lbs. It was a gradual increase of around 2lbs per month, in spite of watching my diet and exercising more than ever before. Coincidence ? I don't think so. I am now coming off the Abilify and I hope the weight will start coming down.

Been off it for 9 days, dropped 5lbs.  I have always been active...gym, tennis,biking..it's impossible to lose weight on this drug.  PDoc said it was weight neutral...BS it is.  I have had no SE's since going off, I'll take a little crazy than fat any day.  BP1

After reading other peoples comments & speaking to my psychiatrist, I learned this medicatiom causes serious weight gain. If I would have know of the potential side effect of weight gain, I definitely would not have taken it. I have never had a weight problem. I went from a size 2 to an 11 & have gained 45 pounds & I'm only 4'11. I weigh more now than I did when I was pregnant & I quickly lost the weight after my daughter was born. I am having a difficult time losing the weight:( I am slowly weening off of Abilify & started a new medication called Latuda. I am hopeful it won't cause weight gain. My advice to anyone considering or started taking it, immediately discontinue the use of this drug, otherwise you'll regret taking it.
