Hello! I am Mary and I am thirteen. I have been having problems with my eyesight since I started with the school. I couldn’t see the pictures and words written on the chalkboard clearly. Since then my myopia was only getting worse. My doctor said it is common that myopia gets worse at my age. And I had this stupid hope that it will maybe improve after some time. Does Myopia stop getting worse when you get older?
Hello! Unfortunately you can’t keep myopia from getting worse once you have it. It often gets worse, sometimes rapidly, until the late teens and then it usually stabilizes. This usually happens till 18 or 20 years of age and you can expect your myopia to stabilize at that age. Nearsightedness does not improve as you get older but it usually doesn’t get much worse. Children with uncorrected nearsightedness may have trouble learning in school and building social skills, so it is important to wear eye glasses.
