I've been taking Doxycycline for over two weeks and haven't been experiencing problems up until yesterday. I usually take my pill at 7 am in the morning, but I forgot to take it and I ended up taking it around 11 instead. And since then I've developed a pain in my upper chest whenever I drink or whenever I swallow food. Is it because I missed my dose or is it because I may not have drank a lot of water with the pill? What should I do next? I've called my physician but their office is closed on the weekend. Should I stop taking the pill until I can contact her?
I've got pain in my sternum and throat whenever I swallow, as if I get the urge to burp, and that started 2 days after I started taking doxycycline for my wisdom teeth extraction. It's a bit weird Original Poster felt this symptom after the 2nd week though; seems kinda long. But I've read it's most likely just irritation from the composition of the pill. I simply stopped taking it, and a few days later, I was pain-free. God, that was so relieving... Those pills' job was to ensure protection against bacteria if my mouth/gums became infected, but my wisdom-less gums healed without any problems. Although it's still a risk if you stop taking them, hopefully it's possible to compromise with your doctor and use different medicine suitable for your specific situation.
Edit: Yes, I realize OP was over a year ago, but my comment could be used as reference for future victims of pills' sternum pain.
Hope I help, and the pain is temporary, so hold on; YOU CAN MAKE IT!!!! I BELIEVE!!!!
