I'm also interested in this question about drinking alcohol whilst suffering with a gallbladder problem. In my case there are no stones just a blocked gallbladder that's only about 1% efficient. Without really knowing it my gallbladder has been playing me up for more than ten years, the various doctors that I've seen over the years have put my problem down to. 1 Reflux Acid, 2. Anemia and 3. Heart trouble. Then about 2 years ago I started having more serious symptoms culminating in a massive attach in March 2011 which I though was killing me. This time the Physicians got it right! A change of diet put me on the right road and I was told by my doctor that I could still drink my wine keeping it to 3 small glasses per day and no more than one and a half bottles per week. I have exceed this limit several times without any of the gallbladder attack symptoms; the only exception being when I've crossed the forbidden dairy product food line when I've had the warning signals. Having said this, my advice would be to discuss this "in detail" with your doctor/physician before de-corking your favourite bottle of Chablis, as no two people will react in the same way. Good Luck with the gallbladder and happy drinking!!

Beetroot is also good. I also use Reiki by placing one hand on GB area the other hand palm down in direction of or on, bed//ground or whatever. I have done this over a hundred times and it has never failed to relieve pain within 5-15 mins depending on severity.

Dr. Mentioned that gall stones are fairly common. 2 of 5 people pass gall stones and dont even know what

that was. Being i suffered recently from one passing through the old Pipes.. i was informed that a sudden change

in diet can cause the stones to grow, thus blocking the ducts, etc.  I am Hypoglycemic, so not eating Meats is out

of the question for me. But the Sudden change in my Diet consisted of Christmas Candy and Gifts of Brownies!

Gained weight.. and Gallstone City had Opening Day festivities  throughout  Body.  Okay, i also had Beer. Which

i never do.. but it was good.  So, i went back to my low carb diet of 45 yrs.. and no beer.  I have not had another

attack of being Stoned to Death! ... I had 2 little attacks first.. then the Biggie.  And, you ALL know what i am saying!

..Best to each one of you... Be Well.

What is a waiting list? That poster was obviously in the UK, England, where they have state health care and the waiting lists are notorious, just like ours will become when OBAMACARE gets going. So Im having my gallstones out next month while I have private insurance.

They aren't 'notorious' at all, they're pretty reasonable actually, you don't know what you're talking about. And if you have the money and want things done more quickly you can pay privately. At least everyone's entitled to free health care here in the UK - what do you do if you are poor and ill in the States? Apart from suffer and die obviously. Sounds a really nice place to live. Have fun keeping your poor people ill my friend.

I have a ton of gallstones.. how many? I don't know they didn't count them cause it was quite a few.. I have had 4 major attacks that has sent me to the E.R. and the e.r. sends me to my G.I. doc.. my G.I. doc dont wanna rush on removing my gall bladder b/c I have a collapsed colon which means I have to have a few surgeries to fix that. But this weekend I had 2 back to back attacks. the first one lasted over 45 min.. the 2nd one was only about 15 but so intense.. today is Tue and I just had a mini attack that was mild for about 5 min.. I called my G.I. doc cause I think it's time to take it out. I had a nuclear test done on my gall bladder and it showed the stones trying to be lodged which can cause ur gall bladder to explode:( I believe being put on a waiting list is ridiculous b/c it's not a complicated surgery. I want mine takin out so i'm waiting on the doc to call me back and see.. as far as drinking alcohol.. yes it is a cause for an attack... i still have drinks occasionally and it causes my stomach to hurt but so does dairy, tomatoes, fatty foods, soda etc... im glutene intolerance also and have low blood sugar so im limited as it is.. I try to only eat or drink what i want(what im not suppose to have) very lil' and not often cause it does flare your attacks... I would get another doc if there telling u that u have to be on a waiting list.. my oppinion

Glad to find this thread....I rapidly lost weight in 2011 which resulted in a stone. You folks not wanting to go under the knife are wise (and please shut up about the Obamacare nonsense--your politics are not relevant to the topic--nobody cares. I don't think people looking for information want to read some heated diatribe on an unrelated topic). All readings I've done have indicated more long term problems than are worth it with surgery. In my life, I have had 3 severe attacks lasting a few days each and maybe 10 more minor attacks lasting between 5-10 hours. This said, most of these attacks happened between Aug of 2011 and May of 2012. Right after I stopped losing weight. At that point I decided on the ACV treatment which basically consisted of drinking two BIG bottles of apple cider vinegar over a couple months. In addition, I began buying pickles with the sole intention of drinking the juice. Vinegar, by God, helps! It may sound gross, but before surgery, give it a shot! This, for the most part, DRASTICALLY reduced my attacks. I had the minor twinge from June 2013 to Feb 2013, but had zero attacks. In Feb, I was feeling so good I wanted to do a follow up flush....I went to GNC and they suggested a pill with (more or less) hydrochloride to stimulate stomach acid. After 2 weeks taking the pills, I had a big attack....I thought the attacks had returned, however....I read more and now realize that the remaining stone fragments were likely dissolved or the built up bile was or what ever and that's what caused the relapse. I may be relapse free had I not taken those pills, so be warned on that. After, I have felt free and clear ever since. Let me make some disclaimers: I am a vegan, I run on a rather regular basis, I am well under 40 and I STILL think I will never be totally free and clear from the issue. There are what are known as phantom attacks that some always suffer (even those without a gallbladder) where you think you're getting ready to have one....only to find its gas or indigestion. But.....at this point, I'm back to things I love....including alcohol and French fries or potato chips. The key is, simply, moderation. I seldom drink (maybe 20-40 drinks per 2 years), but I can and have gotten drunk with little issue. Now, I wouldn't chance a 4 day bender followed by 2 tubs of KFC fried chicken, but I also kettle cook popcorn with olive oil, liberally, and feel perfect after as much as I like. Point being, don't be afraid to try alternatives including vinegar or hydrochloride pills or even a vegan diet with very light running or exercise. You can live a party life and eat GREAT and, perhaps, even restore function that has seemed lost with just a few minor changes. No, I'm not a doctor, but I have drastically reduced my attacks to 1 a year with these methods. Cheers!

I have had gallstones for a little under 5 years now. Originally assumed it was lactose intolerance then went to hospital with worst attack I've had. Its is MAINLY attributed to the saturated fat & cholestrol. Once a lot of attacks happen anything that takes more then normal effort to digest= attack. Gallbladder & liver are directly connected, so NO alcohol when in compromised state/ have been having recent attacks. I'm a massage therapist/holistic bodywork & am completely against having it removed.I've been under acupuncture/ traditonal chinese medical care. IT WORKS!!! Even if you are not into the needles, this thought process, diet & herbal regimen assit so greatly. The gallbladder is a main entity in oriental medicine and is directly connected to some other things (ie:liver function, eye issues, anger & indecisiveness) Look into it all! It takes some serious cracking down but after 9 months my ultrasound showed a 87% progression to being stone free

As a 39yo male, I've been having attacks increasing in frequency and duration for the past 6-8 months after developing stones during rapid weight loss (about 60lbs in 12mos) and hereditary GB disease (father had his removed 2y ago).  I've noticed that other than the aforementioned fatty/spicy foods, that attacks seem to occur approx 24-48 hours after drinking. (even being careful not to eat anything at all risky during/after drinking).

I think i may have been in denial that alcohol did not increase the likelihood of attack, but it does makes sense as your liver increases bile production in order to rid your body of the toxins in the booze.  This increased bile production can be sparked by even a lean meal (as i found during my last one), a turkey sandwich with mustard (no mayo or cheese) and some crackers set me off for a good 15hr of pain.

Anyone reading this, please learn from my trial and error.  Cut out booze of any sort until you have recovered from your surgery, you'll be thankful that you did, and your attacks will decrease in frequency and severity.  My laproscopy is a week from today, wish me well everyone, even with the sides that can occur from the surgery, at this point I'm willing to do what it takes in order to not endure the crippling pain/nausea/bloating that I've experienced during my attacks.

After having my baby on june 7th,2013, i started having really bad stomach pains and throwing up. Then on july of 2013 I was diagnosed with gall stones. Sept 13th I had one alcohol beverage, I'M not a drinker. just wanted try one. on sept 14th of 2013, i woke up 3am in so much pain. I had go to the hospital. They told me I needed get my gall bladder removed now cause they didn't want send me home. said if they send me home, i could have another gall stone pass. That if I had another attack or gall stone pass, i could be in bad condition. I had an elevated liver enzyme,it was really high. I got my first surgery Saturday and then had get a second surgery on monday. they removed my gall bladder then my second surgery I had gall stones in my bile duct blocking my intestines. I was in the hospital about four days. My baby girl is 3 months old. i really didn't had much time recover from having my baby. After I got out hospital, I wasn't in no pain at all. so, i didn't need any pain meds. I'm up moving around and taking care of my 3 month old daughter. I feel so much better. No more stomach pains or throwing up. One time I had two attacks in one day, it wasn't fun. I recommend people who have gall stones get your gall bladder remove cause keep waiting around just going make things worse on you. I waited too long and I just couldn't do it anymore cause I have a 3 month old. If i didn't got it removed soon my liver could of failed. I am 20 years old..

Do not drink any alcohol! I have two large gallstones, and my dr wants to remove my gallbladder I have been trying to put it off by eating healthy and not eating things that flare it up, which is going pretty well.. I haven't had many attacks since I changed my diet. And very little pain. But two times now that I have had a few drinks I was violently ill the following day. Throwing up all day. Yesterday was the worst. I had 3 vodka drinks on Thursday night and first thing Friday I was throwing up all green bile. This lasted all day and evening. Also had diarrhea that was bile colored. It was very painful and I was so nauseous. I could not keep anything down, not even water. Any liquid made me throw up. And bc of throwing up so many times my neck was completely tensed up and my whole body ached. I was so exhausted by the time I was done getting sick I slept for 16 hrs. Now that this has Happend twice I know it is from the alcohol and my gallstones/gallbladder does not agree with it!

I just recently (4 days) had my gallbladder out. Ho. Lee. Shiz. It hurts so bad. Worse than my worst attack if you ask me. But hopefully, it'll get better over time. For those of you that wonder about alcohol consumption with gallbladder problems, what ive noticed is that the only drink that caused me any pain was vodka, and that was after two shots. Rum went down smooth with a little uncomfort for a few seconds. Gin was fine. Whiskey was better. Beer was perfect. Not sure why it was only vodka causing problems, but I hope its not the same for anyone else. I'll post back in a few weeks when I start drinking again to compare the before and after of the surgery.
