I'm on Day 7 after my tonsillectomy. I can eat most foods but it somewhat hurts but the pain is extremely tolerable. The only time my throat ever hurts is when it gets dry. I dont understand why people say it hurts a lot after a tonsillectomy. I was expecting extreme pain. But so far its been pretty okay. Not going to lie, the first 3 days all I wanted to do was puke. But I guess it all depends on the way you heal. But I was eating food the same day I went home. But it was like soup and stuff. And they said I could start eating normally after a bit.

I know what you mean I had my tonsils removed last week and i couldn't take the medicine without my yogurt. The thought of it made me want to puke. Eggs, Grits and Popsicles are the only things getting me through. I dont really like plain ice cream with this kind of pain.

My 4 year old son had his tonsils & adenoids out today. His dr said he can eat whatever he can tolerate but to avoid crunchy & citrusy foods. He ate pizza (no crust) & French fries for dinner and was fine.

I know you're lying - somebody is really going to believe you and eat a crunchy ass piece of toast and hurt themselves severely !!

You're good because i'm struggling to get down fluids. I tried to eat ice cream, apple sauce, almost cold beef broth. Even when I take the pain medication it still hurts to eat. Im at day seven and i'm still struggling to get down fluids. Back to the doctor tomorrow. My doctor said I had the worst case he's ever seen. Whereas it was suppose to take an hour it took three hours.

Definitely not lying. I'm in the US my doctor has a strong British accent. He advised regular food as well. Toast, chips, whatever. Bleeds happen just because sometimes. It could have nothing to do with your diet. The longer you wait the worse the scabs form that's why most bleeds in the US happen around day 7-10 because that's when they are first trying solid food and have 10 days of scab build up. Doctors outside the US don't want that build up. The "soft bland food only" is definitely a US thing.

Yep I agree wth everything you've said up here. I've just had mine done and been told to eat as normal otherwise if you eat sorts your throat will heal but only be able to tolerate soft foods from them on.

I got my tonsils out 7 days ago and the pain is still pretty bad. I have been drinking A LOT of Gatorade and water and the more you drink the better it gets. I am able to eat stuff like Soup, milk shakes, ice cream, yogurt, French fries, macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, and stuff like that. NO CRACKERS OR KETCHUP! Try not to stick to an all ice cream and Gatorade diet or you will just get sick of them. I don't know if you can have strawberry and stuff but I do know its hard to open your mouth wide. You tongue will be super sensitive and with white stuff on it but that's normal. I still cant even talk my voice is gone and it hurts so much if I try to talk I have to make signals to people for what I'm saying but its really hard. It gets better and better the younger you are the faster it gets better too! Good Luck
