I am so frustrated...I was given an epidural containing steroids almost two years ago. Within thirty six hour gained thirty five pounds...called my physician who thought I had lost my mind...and asked to see me. He was shocked and I was hospitalized with CHF...had a heart cath, etc.
I cannot lose the weight. I have acute intermittent porphyria and need carbs...but only eat healthy carbs....thre is no junk food in my house. I oftentimes forget to eat...but the pound just continue to pile on. I have gone from 135 lbs to close to 180 lbs. My thyroid has actually gone into overdrive...you would think this would cause weight loss...but no..I gained another five pounds over the last four weeks. My doctor says you can't gain weight from breathing air...I find this offensive...I have had friends attet to the fact that I eat like a bird...and extremely healthy.. Any suggestions?

I have recently had a similar scenario to yours. I gained thrity-five pounds in less than two weeks with my epidurals. I have gained fifty pounds and ten inches in my waist. I was a size 6 and am now a size 14 after becoming a size 20 within weeks. It has been a year and I cannot get the weight off. It really bothers me. And to double the problem, it is causing me more problems and I can hardly walk when I was walking 8 miles a day before. These doctors do not seem to have ANY IDEA of the seriousness of some of the medications that they prescribe!
My spine is worse than it was before.
