I fracture my collarbone about 2 weeks ago. First I went to the UC which they took the xray and told me to go see an orthopedic. I went there and the doc saw my xray, gave me vicoden prescription, and I had to buy a sling from them. He told me to rest and to see him in 4 weeks.
I'm using the sling but sometimes I take it off. Is it recommended to stay with the sling all 4 weeks or let my arm rest without it?
Also what type of therapy should I start doing and when should I start doing it?
Thank you,

you should definatly wear the sling for the 4 weeks if they did not give you a figure 8. i broke my collar bone and wore the figure 8 for only 4 days .My collar bone is so messed up now it cracks and pops when i do certiain things with my right arm . It also gets painful on the left side very easily.
It depends on the break. If it was completely seperated, it'll need more time. I fractured my collar bone about 8 days ago and I just went for a follow-up and the doctor said it was healing great and I can abandon the sling in about a week as long as nothing happens or it starts to hurt more. He also said I could start range of motion exercises, but NOT to over due it...just lifting and holding, etc.
I know the sling sucks, but MAN is it better then the figure 8. I have one of those too and I could only stand it for a day or 2. SO uncomfertable.

I agree, I think that waiting for a bit more time is a good idea. You really don't want to mess with the recovery time because you can really mess up your collarbone and that's a really terrible bone to try to fix. I would say it's a good idea to wait just a bit longer.
