tebor99 - best wishes for your recovery. I had burning with urination last through about 10 weeks post-op. And the incontinence was pretty upsetting and annoying for another 2-3 weeks after that. Now going on 20 weeks I can say it was well worth the struggle.
Good to know, thanks for the reply. I am 4 weeks post-surgery and still experiencing a lot of pain when urinating. Bladder seems to remain in a constant state of irritation, and I just generally all-around don't feel like all cylinders are firing. I was doubting my decision to go this route...
Did you use Wei? My husband is considering using him and I was wondering. We are in Michigan
Hi
I did not use Dr. Wei even though I am in Michigan. I traveled to Dr. LIngeman in Indianapolis to have the surgery on Dec. 12, 2014. I had been told to have prostate surgery starting in 1993 and constantly put it off until I was retaining 800ml in my bladder and wanted a chance with surgery to avoid using a catheter daily [which is what my urologist in Michigan told me I would have to do if I didn't have surgery]. After giving it a lot of thought, I decided that driving 298 miles to see Dr. Lingeman was something I wanted to do since he had the most experience with HOLEP. I know my urologist in Michigan who has sent patients to Dr. Wei for HOLEP has indicated at the time that his patients did well with their surgeries. I think Dr. Wei started performing HOLEP around five years ago. I have not read anything on this site from anyone who has seen Dr. Wei for the surgery. Best of luck to you and your husband. Jack.
I left a post here a few hours ago but it doesn't show up so I'll try again. I did not see Dr. Wei for my surgery but instead decided to drive to Indianapolis to have
Dr. Lingeman perform the surgery. The reason was that I assumed Dr. Lingeman had performed more HOLEP's than anyone else and he was written about quite a bit on this forum. I did not read anything about Dr. Wei on the forum, going back to the beginning of the forum, although my local urologist in Michigan has sent a number of patients to Dr. Wei to have the HOLEP performed and my urologist has been pleased with the results. It was a very good experience going to Indianapolis. I did have an issue five months after my HOLEP when my urinary stream went from a full stream down to a dribble and my local urologist said I had a vesicle neck contracture. I went back for a simple 10-15 minute repair in May and things worked just fine as soon as the surgery was over. If things hold up as they are now I'll be very happy. I'd be very happy to discuss my experience if you send me your email address or phone number. Jack.
I'm currently awaiting my first appointment with Dr. Lingeman, then hopefully the HoLEP surgery not too long afterward. I'm having to wear a catheter until the surgery and made a surprising discovery regarding the secret to having the medical personal insert the catheter WITHOUT pain! Tell the nurse or doctor to lubricate the catheter and inject the numbing agent before insertion! I didn't feel a thing this time!
Sorry but I forgot to sign my user name.....stanart
HOLEP patients report in. How are you doing post surgery? How many weeks in recovery? When did you start feeling "normal" again? What are your thoughts about the RE? Has anyone gotten over RE and back to normal?
Checking in 6 weeks post-HoLEP. I'm doing well. I'm back to normal work schedule and workout schedule. Total control overnight. Still having minor leaks when I'm standing, but I'm ready to graduate from TENA moderate absorption guards to the light absorption ones. I am experiencing some minor bleeding after working out and after sex. I spoke with Stephanie at Dr Lingeman's office, and she said that this is normal through 3 months post-op: that the prostate scabs over and then sloughs its scab, which results in some bleeding. I have my follow-up appointment in 2 weeks and will report back then.

It has been roughly 3 years post surgery for me. I did experience a few normal ejaculations after surgery but now they are all RE. I dont expect to regain a normal ejaculation . For me there isnt much of a difference as far as quality of the orgasm.
In all honesty , I had a very weak ejaculation prior to surgery.
After the surgery, My orgasm was much the same . My erections improved, and the quality of my life was much improved.
Much of the worry about Re is in my opinion, needless. I have a loving wife . Almost 40 years. I dont have to impress . She loves me as I am . WE are both past the age of wanting any more Children. We are both very thankful I do not have Prostate cancer.
My wife nursed our children. I dont think any less of her breasts because they no longer secrete milk. She thinks no less of my penis because it no longer ejaculates semen! Enjoy what you have and celebrate !

So far, my wife loves RE. No mess. She's a weird one. I'm not a fan, but it is what it is...
You mention sepsis. My husband had a sepsis infection froma prostate biopsy 6 years ago and is now having HoLep in 2 weeks. Obvioulsy, I am very concerned. (as is his dr)
He has been put on low dose Vantin for 14 days and will recieve a shot in the OR. Unfortunitly, he is allergic to cipro.
Do you think this should cover most of the risk?

How was your experience with Dr. Knudsen? Did you have HoLEP?
My husband is having the procedure in Indy next week. Would love to speak with you!
I've been wearing a catheter now for almost 3 months and am waiting for Dr. Lingaman's HoLEP surgery in a little over three weeks. Very much looking forward to getting this over with.
