I believe you can attribute the noticeable change to retrograde ejaculation --- an almost certain result of HoLEP. That said, erections and orgasm are still commonly possible --- which can not be said for other methods of BPH surgery. I suggest that increased communication between you and your mate during the sexual act might compensate for the lack of physical notifications associated with normal ejaculation.

Does anybody have any information about Dr Marawan El Tayeb from Temple, Texas? I would assume that he had his training on HOLEP with Dr. Lingeman. I'm considering to see him for the procedure since I'm here in Houston, Tx.

YouTube has video of actual Holep procedures. I found them very informative. You may also google Dr Lingeman , and Holep. There is info out there. More than when I had it in 2012.

If you have not taken the time, it will be very beneficial to read the conversations between Jonal , and myself, " just me". These were posted as we were going through our recovery, they were a great source of encouragement to each other.

I check in on this site occasionally to encourage anyone I can.

I had HoLEP surgery 6 days ago and my experience is generally very good. Had TURP surgery 2 1/12 years ago but due to blood loss the Urologist advised he "Could not remove as much tissue as he wanted". I was OK for about a year then had to go back to Flomax and had a 12 - 19 range PSA. I spent 2 nights in hospital after HoLEP due to passing blood clots; Friday afternoon surgery and released Sunday Noon. The Foley Catheter was removed on Sunday morning before leaving the hospital. Stream was OK with discomfort and burning but no real pain, stream then weakened Monday and Tuesday to the point of concern but was still able to pass water. Approx. noon on Wednesday my stream started improving and by Wednesday night I had a good stream with very little blood. I was on Bactrim antibiotics for Mon, Tues & Wed. Also I did go back to work full-time on Monday after the Friday surgery. I have not felt any pain or issues with my prostrate after surgery but my first few days home problems seem to be more related to the catheter irritating the urethra. It's day 6 on Thursday and I feel good.

How long did they say that your HoLEP procedure would be good for?

I am scheduled for HoLEP with Dr. Mitch Humphreys of Mayo at the end of September, but have not met him yet. I appreciate your feedback and tips Most of the feedback on this thread seems to be about Dr. Lingeman.
DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY FEEDBACK, POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE, ABOUT DR. HUMPHREYS??

I had the HOLEP surgery from Dr. Humphreys in March, 2017. I am completely recovered, with no lingering side effects. Dr. Humphreys is an excellent surgeon, and he runs a team of very talented and dedicated support staff. I was very impressed with the entire staff at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Humphreys has now done well over 600 Holep's with a very high success rate. I think you'll be pleased. I have nothing negative to report from my experience. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that Dr. Humphreys trained with Dr. Lingeman.

What was required of you before the actual surgery by Dr Humphreys (ie: appointments, tests, etc)?

For Dr. Lingeman, really all he required was the records from my local urologist (in advance of making an appointment with Dr. Lingeman's office). That and a prelim meeting the day before surgery was all that was required so that I only had to travel once for the surgery.

I did have at least two appointments prior to the surgery, but I live locally, so it was no problem for me. The first was initial consult with blood and urine samples, DRE, getting a brochure describing the surgery and getting on the surgery schedule (seems like it was 3-4 months out if I recall correctly). The second was within a week or two of the surgery - again blood and urine, "pre-surgical consultation" from Mayo staff, cystoscopy and dre from Dr. Humphreys. I would be surprised if he is not able to compress this schedule. He did mention that folks are flying in from all over the world to have this surgery done. There is a motel with shuttle service near the Mayo Hospital. Good luck!
