I had the Holep last December,so about 11 months ago, at age 79. I had had several painful urinary retention episodes requiring ER insertion of a catheter. After the Holep, I spent one night in the hospital, then went home. For a week or two I had blood in my urine and some slight burning on urinating, but that ended. I now experience no pain on urination. I wore a pad until a month ago. Really, I no longer needed it after four months or so but psychologically I wasn't ready to do without a pad. Now, perhaps once every few weeks I have a small leak, but it's not much of a problem. I don't sleep straight through the night but that may be due to other causes. I pee easily with a good stream and no pain. My surgeon assured me I would not experience urinary retention any more, which was my objective in having the Holep. I am very happy with the result. I appreciate this website and all the good help it provides.
Only good news is (at this point) is NO retro ejaculation which was a surprise since the surgeon assured me that retro ejaculation happens almost all the time with removing that much tissue. I just hope as time passes I can return to a normal life and not worry about finding a rest room in time.
Who has used the services of Dr Nicole L. Miller at Vanderbilt Urology/University?? I would like to hear any positive or negative feedback regarding this doctor, as she is one of the doctors at the top of my list for Holep surgery. Thank you
