I am told the younger you are and the smaller your prostrate the shorter the recovery.
The very best to you.
I certainly hope and pray that the surgeon got all of the cancer. I had colon cancer removed just prior to my HoLEP. It proved to be stage 1 (a different scale). It sounds like they may have caught yours early.
I have a high pain tolerance according to my surgeon. Post op I did not experience pain when urinating but during the time of healing I felt like all of the prostate nerves were firing after I moved or compresssed the prostate followed by a strong urgency. That has, thankfully, subsided. I am 5 months out and the incontinence is now down to drips and dribbles. I am using one mini-pad (shield) a day.
Please keep in touch.
The one thing that is memorable is that I had a catheter in me that was two way. They had saline flush going into me and then the urine coming out. That was the most uncomfortable fourteen hours! That thing was HUGE.
I think my experience is fairly typical of Holep survivors. So, hang in there, Daniel, better days are coming!
I experienced the same thing Daniel. Didn't even feel it coming out as it freely flowed the first day. I had no control at all. That improved fairly quickly, but I wore full pants for a good 2 weeks squirting frequently until things got slowly better before I had the confidence to move to shields. I'm at 7 months now and still dribble and drip every day (more when active, less when not) and always wear a shield (usually no more than 1 a day). Now I pee'd like a fire-hose from the 2nd day that cath came out, but I had a catheter for a full 3 days, and spent 16 hours with a 2-way catheter pumping saline to flush. You MAY be experiencing clots that are slowing your flow. You may want to chat with your MD to see (just a thought). I am confident things will improve for you quickly. Continue please to let us know - we're all with you!
Thanks everyone for your encouragement and for sharing your knowledge.
It sounds like you are right on track. The urge incontinence will go away over time. It is different for all of us. I can tell you that I can sleep a lot better than before. I can get a solid 3 to 4 hours of sleep. Others have reported that they can go all night.
Hang in there it gets better. The next level is when you graduate to just pads.
