I have heard of tuberculosis but I am not in anyway familiar with extra pulmonary tuberculosis and that is how my 45 years old friend has been diagnosed recently. He is hospitalized and I am not even allowed visiting him in this stage of illness. So please is there anyone who could tell me what extra pulmonary tuberculosis is and is it treatable? Thanks!
I think that the chances for recovering from extra pulmonary tuberculosis are very small for having extra pulmonary tuberculosis means in fact that these bacteria haven't affected only lungs it has actually spread on some other organs such as lymph nodes, pleura and even joint and bones in worse case it may even affect central nervous system so you see this extra pulmonary tuberculosis is actually life-treating condition that requires special and prolonged drug treatment that almost always have some sporadically side effects and one of the worse is chronic liver damage. The treatment last very long so it may easily happen that your friends extra pulmonary tuberculosis to be treated for longer than a year and even if treated successfully the chronic lung and liver damage is unavoidable.
