Naomi. I had bruises for about two months then I discovered ARNICA gel I only wish I knew about it earlier in my recovery. Try it. You may have to as your pharmacist sometimes it's kept behind the counter. Good luck.

You will not feel like attendin your daughters birthday. I had a facelift 7 days ago. You will be weak and have a tight constricted headache for weeks. it all gets better but takes time. Look for improvement weekly not daily. I am a nurse who has worked for a plastic surgeon for 18 years so I know what I m talking about. Be patient and everything will work out fine.

I'm 5 weeks post mid facelift and I am still swollen and my cheeks are really hard and lumpy - this is freaking me out. I was told that by my PS that in two weeks I would be fine - what a load of absolute rubbish!!!

How can p.s.'s live with themselves knowing they're full of it during their sale's pitch? Of course when you look awful at 2 weeks, they'll say, "You're unusual and in the minority."
They should say, Take as much time off work as you can, as recovery varies a lot.

I am 2 weeks post op after a lower face and neck lift. I also had a full lift 15 years ago and was really happy with the results but had to be away from people for a month due to swelling and bruising. This time, I am now 65, but planned for one month before going out to work again. I am thrilled to report I can go out in public now, but wear a wig to cover the swelling, a turtleneck to cover my neck, and I feel awkward. I get headaches at the end of the day, but Vicodin relieves the headache and tender ears.

I think one of the previous people misunderstood the woman who asked about the research one patient did before embarking on this surgery. I have to agree. Not every person should have this done, forpsychological reasons. It is major surgery and takes 6 months to a year to recover. There is pain, swelling ( at one point I looked like I had been beaten up!). I was naive when I did this age 50, trying to hide it from everyone. At 65, I am very open, and willing to share with other women who want to know what it is like. Even with a very positive outlook, I asked myself on day 5 why I had done this elective surgery. However, today I look great. I still have the lack of sensation, hardness under my skin and uneven healing. But I know what to expect and have been there before. My sweet husband wanted to make love tonight, at 2 weeks post op. I thought he was out of his mind to think I would have any interest, with my aching ears, funny chin lift garmet and sleeping sittinup, not a natural position at all. But I realize that I look normal to him, I do not complain or ask for help

I am 5 months post surgery and still am having little lumps and bumps. I am one of those people who don't absorb the dissolving stitches quickly. Be careful about massaging at this early date...gentle, don't move the skin around, it hasn't fully healed to the muscles.... Forget everything for at least four months and then try to remember what was so scarey and it will be gone. I thought I was a fast healer and it turns out my swelling is going down very slowly. But the important thing is that it will heal. Days are up and down and trend up so relax and give your body it's own time.

I had a face lift 6 weeks ago and still have more than occasional stinging pain.  My chin is bumpy.  The says to message the scar and it will get better.  My face still has no sensation and hurts to wash it.  Any comments would help.

I had a dent on my jawline that took about 2 mths to fill in. Numbness can take up to a year to go. I massaged near my scars weeks later at the time advised, and they got disturbed and then infected- in front of and behind one ear. This happened both times I got a facelift. A little loss of sensation in some areas can sometimes be permanent.

You've got to be kidding right? You surely could attend but to think you would look anywhere near normal after 2 days post-op after a face lift tells me how out of touch you are with the whole surgerical & healing process...very uninformed! You should talk to your surgeon and his nurses for a reality check!

I would also suggest the same. I had a facelift surgery along with chin implants a year ago and i experienced the same. My chin was swollen and it touched a bit hard. It persisted for a month. My Plastic surgeon was Dr Philip Solomon in Toronto and he suggested me to wait for two weeks. The swelling and hardness was getting down gradually and i felt better.
