I'm so glad i'm not the only one in this situation. I have just been diagnosed with chlamydia but I was tested for it back in 2007 (even though my doctor told me I wasn't tested for it & I have the result at home to prove it!!) and it was NEGATIVE.
I got urinal tract infections a few times & got antibiotics for it but I began to get pains & bleeding. So it turns out I have pelvic inflammoratory disease now because I have chlamydia.
My partner has assured me he has not cheated & I believe him because he could not possibly get a chance and I trust him. We have been together for nearly 3yrs but both have had unprotected sex before our relationship. He is not showing any symptoms and we are now waiting on his result.
I'm so confused and very conerned that my doctor is telling me I was never tested even though I was. I'm also so scared that I could be infertile now :-( Can't stop thinking about :'(

It is a little confusing how you have results for test at your home and your doctor is telling you that you have never been tested?! You are living with this for a long time, and you could have been all right by now. It is good that you can trust your partner, and it is great to have a partner like that. Try to be one for another as much as you can, through this situation.
Chlamydia is known to cause infertility and ectopic pregnancy. You need talk to your doctor about this and see what is done and what can be done.

Yeh it just doesn't make sense at all. I'm thinking the test wasn't accurate the first time. I can't believe that this could be possible though. And I have mentioned one or two of the symptoms on several visits to my doctor(s). She was so sure that I never had the test done in the past and didn't take into account what I was saying to her and presumed my partner must have cheated. I'm dying to find out what his result will be but how can we be so sure his result will be correct! Its crazy!

Well it could be that they lost your tests, but this should not happen at all, but it might be in your case. It's good that you are thinking clear and positive about this. You have to be with your partner. It is very important for both of you to be together. Pleas keep us posted on results.

So my bf hasn't heard back from his doc. so he must be negative. He told him he would ring if it was positive and hasn't heard anything.
I spoke to my doc bout the negative result and I made a mistake with the year, she found it on my file afterall.
So, I haven't cheated, my bf says he hasn't cheated, he is negative(I doubt he would lie about it and I know for sure he has never been treated before since ive been with him)....I told her all this and she told me she has heard of cases where chlamydia can go away itself in some way. So maybe I had it and it went away (obv when I was tested) but it came back again. She wouldn't even say the lab could have made a mistake. That just doesn't sound right, that it can go away and come back again?? And how come my partner hasn't go it?? Like I must have had it for at least 3yrs!?
I'm still quite confused :-(

I finished my antibiotics, was feeling much better. No pain and not feeling bloated anymore. But i've bled again after being intimate with m bf. We waited bout 4 days after my treatment, thought that would be ok.
His doc did say it would be a wk/wk 1/2 for his results to get back and if he didn't hear from him it means he's negative. So seeing as we didn't hear from his doc we presumed he was negative.
But after I bled, I got him to ring his doc and turns out his results are still NOT back!!! So we don't know now...he probably is positive.
So if I was negative in 2007 and now we both positive and I didn't cheat & he says he didn't cheat??? Arrggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????
I'm probably reinfected now too or else the PID is really bad. Have to go back to my doc tomorrow and probably be put on MORE antibiotics :-(

I have this similar situation with my girlfriend. In May of 08 I tested negative and a year later still with the same woman for the past 2 1/2 year I tested negative for clymedia. Now my girlfriend had just got over an abortion and having vaginitis and we still were sexually active but in Jun of 09 I was tested positive for clymedia. Now when I found that out I couldnt help but think that my significant other had obviously cheated on me. Now being that we both love each other very much something seems fishy but I still trust her and she trusts me but how did we get this disease. Maybe there is some type of research that hasnt been discovered yet or maybe the viruses or diseases are evolving or maybe a combination of certain bacteria can create the same bacteria that is found in clymedia. Im not sure but this situation is seeming to happen to couples all around the word and its good to know that there are other couples with the same problems but no matter what happens its not worth losing one another over if both parties are being faithful. My gf is going to get tested today so I will find out if she has it as well and one last thing nothing man made is perfect so anything and everything happens for a reason whether its to teach a lesson or to bring couples closer but dont let situations like this destroy what is true.

It is possible to have false positive results. A lab or office mix-up is possible as well but a false positive or negative is just as likely. Unfortunately, clinical lab testing isn't 100% accurate 100% of the time. They're pretty close though. Although, I'm in the same boat. BF cheated and had an STD panel done after and all came back negative. I just tested positive for chlamydia and its looking like he will test negative (according to the early tests). I KNOW I've been faithful and he says has been faithful as well so you can imagine the finger pointing.... I'm crossing my fingers for a false positive. Talking to my doctor on Monday and we'll go from there.

I just had the same problem. I was tested in September 08 and there was nothing, again a few months later when i got pregnant, nothing. I had my baby 2 months ago and I went for my follow up appointment with my oby and 2 days later was in the ER with pelvic pain and they took another swab. The next day my OB calls, says i have chlamydia, so I go to get my hospital test results from the hospital and it was negative. My husband and I were so confused....So I looked up some things on the internet and found this web site.

Basically all you need to read from that is this:

"Conclusions: Using a single collection swab to screen for genital infections with gonococcal cultures and chlamydial enzyme immunoassay is inappropriate because it may lead to false-positive chlamydial enzyme immunoassay results, at least with the Abbott IMx SELECT C. trachomatis EIA test, incurring public health and financial consequences."

So it kind of sounds like they know there's a problem but don't want to admit it because you know..doctors can never be wrong!!

I relate all too well with all of these posts. I have been going through very similar situation with my boyfriend of now 2 years.

I was tested approx 2-3 after we began sleeping together and I tested NEGATIVE for all STDS,,but they did say I had a bacterial infection at that time.... 3 months later i was back---diagnosed with another bacterial infection (was NOT tested for STDs then)..
Not until a year and 1/2 later I was in for my annual and tested positive for Chlamydia.

******
My question is----
Is it possible to sleep with someone for weeks//months, and not contract chlamydia during that time..until some time later? What are the chances of me not catching chlamydia (assuming he had carried it from a past sexual partner) during our first 2-3 months together????
Could that have been a false negative? Im just on the fence about it because i was in for bacterial infections.

******

Of course the possibility that he was with someone else always lies in the back of my mind, but he has been so persistent in saying he has not strayed.

I have not found any answers to this on the web because mostly everywhere is saying once you sleep with someone who has it you WILL get it.....
which is false by the way------ My friend had a one night stand with a man just a few weeks before she had her regular annual OB visit. She tested positive for Chlamydia (automatically assumed she contracted it from him), so she told him about it, and he went to get tested--NEGATIVE. HE did NOT contract it from their one night stand. How is it possible she had it, yet he did not? I just dont know.

I feel very relived to read so many of these. I have been in a serious relationship for 5 years both me and my partners have only been intimate with each other. I know that neither of us have cheated on each other which sound naive but it is just the truth. All of the doctors almost laugh in your face when you tell them that it couldn't be possible. I am on antibiotics right now, will this mess up my test results if I get another test??

The first question I would ask is do you use protection with your partner? But I've known for two people to be involved with one another unprotected and one is positive while the other is negative. It's like this ( don't mean to get off the subject), but if someone have HIV/AIDS and they have unprotected sex with someone, that doesn't neccessarily mean that they will pass this disease on. They would be at higher risk of having it, but won't neccessarily have it because in order to pass this particular disease you have to have certain ACG levels in your system to pass it on. I figure that with StDs it goes the same way or maybe it's possible to have traces of chlamydia in your system but don't actually have it which may lead to a false positive. I had a similar case. I was going to a plasma center giving plasma and everything was fine, keep in mind they check it b/f giving it to someone. About three weeks later I was told that I possibly had syphyllis and to go to the clinic for a follow up to check. Well when I got there of course they drew blood and they gave me a quick test which gave results in 10 to fifteen minutes which came back negative. And I was then told to call back in seven days to get my bloodwork which also came back negative. So basically I was then told that I had traces of it in me but I didn't have it. Don't really know how that works all I know is I was negative so I didn't ask no further questions. Anyway I hope you find out what's wrong and I hope I shedded a little insight on this topic.
