Let me share my experience. Had them since 22. I'm 34. Have them on my center upper lip. Exactly where I had topical cortisone threatment in my 20's following a minor lip trauma. Think it was induced by it.

This condition has 2 components: esthetics and mental. the mental effect is the worse one and the one you must watch out more. don't let this sh*t slow you down!

For me, there was no miracle cure that worked. The best cure I found is to follow a good clean way of life to slow-down / inhibit their progession and their "visible-ness".

We all went thru the same steps. Misunderstanding. Withdrawal. Sense of injustice. Acceptance (some of you are not there yet). Etc.

Avoid prolonged unprotected sun exposure, anxiety and stress, lip stress. I've noticed that in times of stress they are more visible. Spots is an effect of sebum glands which are hormone regulated. Local stress (trauma such as sun) or general hormonal balance (such as anxiety) will affect lip sebum glands production. Don't avoid sun, just put sun lip balm.

After swimming is when my spots are less visible. I don't know if it's the cool water, the water chlorine, or the stress release, or what.

Follow a good clean diet, rich in vegetables, exercices regularly, drink plenty of water (at least 2 liters are day). This will not make them away. It help slow down / inhibit their production. Remember, it's hormonal sebum glands production.

Exercice! Live a clean life it will have other positive effects: reduce hormonal stress (spots), relieve your spots anxiety, clean up your head.

Exercise! Will make you more fit, more attractive, make you feel more confident, and people will focus less on your spots.

Some people are unconfortable seeing my spots because they don't know what it is and they are not esthetic.

Don't focus on the one person's who's uncortable with you while the rest of the group is at ease. Your reaction to this person's unconfort will actually have a cascade effect on the rest of the group.

I had many successful relationships in the last 10 years all with good looking smart women. At first I had only 2-3 tiny spots and I thought I would never find a women. Today I have many more spots and am very sucessful with women. Believe me when I tell you that you are over-focusing on a few tiny spots will the ladies may not be bothered by it at all! Be confident. Be smart. Be fun. Be attractive. This not only applies to ladies, but all your relationships.

Being well in your skin and head is actually how people are going to notice less your spots.

I strongly believe that stress (local or generalized) make my spots more visible, pronounced and I work to avoid it. Read up about cortisol. Work not to avoid cortisol, but to relieve it not to cause it.

I wish there was a miracle cure. Don't f**k up you lips more than they are.

Hey! Saw this post. And I got fordyce when I graduated from university. I'm 23 turning 24 and I don't know what to do other than look up information to cure this abnormality. Doctors "MD's" can miss diagnose the symptoms of fordyce, so I went to a dermatologist. They said its normal. I have not begun to use any creams for I fear they will get worst. So be patient. Maybe there will be a cure to reverse the effects!

well I am building a full medical history of the condition as I experienced it. I've had many blood tests, 4 diff biopsies (mucosa + salivary), ultrasound and even MRI. When I said I was getting close to the source, I was thinking about an HPV strain as well. I was waiting for the results of an OralDna test I did, but it came back clear (no HPV DNA detected). However there are many layers to the skin, and it feels as though this infection is to a mid layer...My latest guess is that it might be related to mono somehow - which exists in the salivary glands and can last 2 yrs before the immune system gets back strong enough to keep it in check (I had swelling of my cervical nodes early on but didn't catch on to mono until late 2013). I've read that the mean time for fordyce spots to naturally regress is around 4 years, I am more than halfway there I guess.

Again - please don't hesitate to contact me via PM and I might share more details about medical history or records if desired.

Ok, so a short idea... Try putting a piece of ice on your lips for a few minutes. This made my spots less noticeable!

Actually don't do this... I'm afraid it could cause some frostbite or something like that. If anything, just do it for 30 seconds or so, to at least cool your lips.

Hi! I suffer from fordyce spots on my upper lip and i´m from sweden just like you. I hate my spots, I have started to avoid talking to people and I need them to go away before my self-esteem is totally gone. I´m planning to do a co2-laser and just wonder where in sweden you did your laser treatment? and do you still have the spots?

Best regards/ Karl

I am going to try co2 laser, or try to at least. Mine are basically invisible, but I have over a hundred of them on my top lip, maybe over 200. If my top lip was a progress bar then it's 80% complete, there's one corner that is still free of them. I miss the feeling of licking my lips and feeling normal smooth lips. It feels like I have sand or dust glued to the lip. Sometimes they seem to get a bit inflamed but it might be my imagination. I've noticed them for 1 year now, at first I thought "oh that's weird, they'll probably go away", but they didn't. It's worth a try. I hope the wait to the dermatologist isn't too long. But they truly are invisible, for now (or until I stretch my lip..). But just the fact that there are literally hundreds of them and I am reminded of them every moment of the day my tongue touches my lips, I have to try something. In certain lighting you can see it when I smile. Reading about people's experiences with co2, it sounds like the vast majority of people get at the very least a significant reduction in their amount, and some people get rid of them all together. If they do come back afterwards, at least I will know that I did try something, and I won't look back in regret wishing I had have tried something.

okay guys, I saw the dermatologist. He has prescribed lactic acid and tretinoin gel to try on my lips. From what I've read, everyone who has tried this hasn't had any results but he wants me to give it a go for 10 weeks. I've ordered some jojoba oil as well to see if that'll help loosen them around. I feel very vulnerable right now and upset. He didn't want to proceed with the co2 laser straight away as he thinks there's potential for scarring. He said that if we do do the co2 laser we will have to try it on a small spot first to see how I react, he says if it works on a small patch it should work on all of them. I get the feeling this lactic acid and tretinoin gel won't really help, but, I guess it's worth a shot. I just hope this isn't going to create more problems for me.

This stuff is driving me crazy.  I am using the Blistex Lip Medex for 2 weeks so I don't want to conclude anything yet. I noticed mine 1 month ago.  Could they have always been there, but I didn't notice? Also are they less noticeable when the lips are dry or when moist with lip balm?

ive tried treinton cream, expoliating with face washers on lips, jojoba oil, blistex, co2 laser, and permanet lip tattooing and none have seem to work.... but i would say co2 laser has made my lip smooth again as before i did have that nasty rough feeling whenever i licked me my lips or meshed both my lips together but as far as getting rid of them co2 wasnt the answer because they just slowly came back after a week or so...i recently tired permanent lip tattooing a week ago from today and i can already tell there slowly coming back but as in right now they are way better than before... so yeah im still kinda of optimistic about lip tattoo because i am schueduled to see my lip tattoo artist again in 2 3 weeks for touch up.... as she said this would allow to get more ink into my lips which i can agree with somewhat cause i have tattoos and have had touch ups on my tats which made them more fine looking and not as faded as before.... so yeah maybe even after this 2nd try with lip tattoo i might ask her to touch it up for a 3rd or 4th time and see if the glands can take the ink in more and more each time.... the tattoo procedure only cost me 60 bucks and the 2nd one is free so thats why i dont have a problem with keep on trying with this procedure cause its so cheap... but also i still gotta see how my lips look within the next 2 3 weeks because if they go all the way back normal (normal as in ugly fordyce spots looking again) then maybe there isnt no point on going back but Ill see in the next couple weeks or so
