So yesterday I was looking at the spots and one looked really different so I squeezed it and stuff came out... Has this happened with y'all?

hard to tell without seeing it first. if it didn't burn or wasn't painful, then you can cross off cold sore and probably a misplaced pimple.

youll know if its a fordyce spot if it fills up again with white stuff within a month.

Go see a dermatologist if you are concerned, I would either way.

That doesn’t sound like a fordyce spot to me. I’d see derm as well if you don’t think it’s a normal pimple or something.

Well th I would rather it not be fordyce spots haha these things came up after I used alum powder in my tongue for canker sores and I thought at thebbeginning that it was some sort of reaction but then they never went away so I just assumed I haf never noticed them and they were fordyce. It would be awesome if it turned out to be something that could be popped and removed. These things have made me so damn depressed. I can't imagine the rest of my life like this

Cold sores and canker sores have about a two week life from first emerging to completely healed.

If youre sure they came up after the powder, go see a Derm. But like a lot of us on here, we have probably had these our entire lives but something either triggered them which made them more pronounced or just something else made us look closely in the mirror and then we noticed.

Either way, they suck.

Look back through the last few pages of posts, a ton of good info on here. The consensus, and I stress consensus as some people have had luck, is that home remedies do not work.

-change your diet to a healthlier lifestyle
-exercise more
-drink more water
-multi-vitamin and maybe a vitamin A
-use Tazorac .05% or .10%
-when using a facial cleanser, make sure to cleanse your lips too
-use a lip scrub to remove old skin

and if you want to jump right in...
-talk to a Derm about full ablative Sciton Ebrium Co2 laser
-try test spots with TCA acid (start low with 10% and work up to 50%) - this method has worked the best for me and I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING over the last 5 years

If they are fordyce, DO NOT:

-pop them
-rub any cream or oil or balm without doing a test spot, everyone reacts different
-stick a hot needle in them
-constantly lick them, stretch them, poke at them or do anything that will irritate the lips, this means covering up in the sun too
-get PDL laser or any light laser
-any laser that is Fractional

Post any questions or pics you have, this is a great community. Ive been dealing with these forever and have recently been using a combo of TCA spot testing and Tazorac .10%. I've been clear for 3 months so far which is the longest in 5 years. If they come back, the TCA is easy to do at home hasnt left any scarring. healing time is about 7-10 days.

Wait! The TCA removed them entirely for you?

Ive got another appointment with a different form on Wednesday and I'm gonna see about the laser this time. The crazy thing about these spots is that no one has ever sa9d anything about them, but they literally drove me crazy. To the point that getting out of bed is a chore. Hoping yhe lady can laser them off for me. I'm interested in the TCA though o had seen that you were trying it but o thought it just made them a little less pronounced, they have actually been GONE for 3 months???

Yes, I have done three test spots with 50% TCA.

The first test spot was Jan 5 and I applied it to my worst spot. I wrote up a detailed process and experience about it a few pages back. I think the key to applying it is to leave it on over night, dont wash off immediately after applying.

I actually think I like the effects better than the Erbrium laser because the healing time was a lot faster. The laser left a slight indention for about 2 months. Nothing major and none of my family or friends noticed, but I of course did. It eventually filled in.

Like I said, after trying for years to get rid of these spots, I FINALLY found something that actually has kept them off for more than 4 weeks. I combined the TCA 50% application (only to spot, DO NOT cover whole lip) with Tazorac .10% (applied once a day at most).

Obviously this is still in testing but has been my most promising protocol so far. And if youre curious:

-no smoking
-I take a probiotic and multi-vitamin daily
-I eat pretty good, not perfect though. Drink a lot of water
-Im active and force myself to workout and go outside, even if these things wanted me to stay in
-I use a face cleanser (cetaphil) each morning and night one my lips
-I use mouth wash 3 times a day, and try not to touch or lick the lips
-I use Ecolips medicated lip balm when they are dry

Wow. That is crazy that you actually found something that kept them away. I'm shocked tbh. I might have to try it depending on how this deem visit goes.

Have Y all ever heard of Blu U ? Is there a way for us to talk other than this forum? We seem to be the only active 3 people.

You can try but its a waste of money. That particular product is a scam, just read the description. No FDA approved medical product would say

"may be something for you to try" - haha, maybe
"go on for five weeks or so" - or so
"office of doctors who specialize in skin treatments" - called a dermatologist

Sorry, not ragging on you, just the actual product.

You have to understand how these things work. The spots arise because a sebaceous gland is on your lips where its not supposed to be. A sebaceous gland produces oil to lubricate and moisten the skin through a hair follicle. Since there are not hairs on our lips, the oil being produced is trapped.

This product may or may not destroy that actual bacteria (P. acnes) but Fordyce spots are filled with sebum (skin oil) which is not a bacteria. That is why these spots are just plain white dots, no redness, no irritation, no swelling.

Dont waste you money on this product or any type of light therapy. It has been proven on this site by multiple people that lights or light lasers do absolutely nothing for the spots.

Sorry but Im very happy to see you searching and posting! We need more people to find and test things out!

I saw it on the website for the dermatologist I'm seeing on Wednesday. Its description saof that it shrinks pores and stops oil production? My thought was What if you had them lasered and then tried the Blu U to keep them from producing oil? Idk. There's got to be something.
