I've had a few treatments of microdermabrasion on my top lip and am starting to see little results. I tried Retina 0.5 for around 3 months with no results just dry lips.
Do you think Tazorac will work when Retina a didn't? Also do you think I should stop the microdermabrasion and try Tazorac?
Thanks Simon

Finally made an account. DM, thats me asking for the TCA details above. So like I was saying the other day I set an appointment for the derm that was today and woke up to an email that they don't treat fordyce so I shouldnt waste my time coming in. I'm livid. Let me know about the TCA, I think I'm gonna go that route since Derms dont seem to want to help.

Microdermabrasion Questions --- is basically popping the spots and also causes "trauma" to the top layer of skin, forcing it to regenerate with new, fresh skin. If you are seeing lasting results, keep doing it. My experience was they would come back after a few weeks. If you combine it with Tazorac .01%, you may see some better results.
TCA Peels --- you can get them on Amazon. They come in different strengths, start low, maybe 10% or 25%. Try a test spot then if it does nothing, move up. I found 50% worked the best for me. There should be a write up I did a few pages back on my process and progress (99 days clear as of today since last TCA treatment and continued .10% tazorac.
Retin A Question --- there are a million different Retin A creams out there. Tazorac .10% is the absolute strongest you can get in the US but you need a prescription. It WILL dry out your lips but I tend to think that hides the spots a little better if my lips are on the whiter side.
Derm Appt --- If its not too late, I would still go see the Derm, they usually do a free consultation. Even if he/she doesn't treat them, you can ask them to fill a Tazorac .10% prescription. AND if they wont fill, any reputable Derm will have the 5 gram sample tubs of Tazorac .05% and .1% (ask for both). The 5mg tube will last months so it will give you a chance to see if it works before you buy the big tube with a prescription.
Also, the Derm may not treat them but they can refer you to another Derm than might, I had that happen 3 times.

Seemed to be a lot of junk suggestions over there too that I had to wade through.
Lets ALL keep posting!

Ive seen you post on that site actually haha I'm gonna order a TCA 25% on friday. I was using .05 retin a, but actually went up to .08 today. Havent tried it yet. These last two days have actually been play as far as appearance so I dont want to test the .08 until I'm feeling it. Also waiting to hear back from a plastic surgeon that the derm said to email so theres that. Honestly if TCA makes them go away for months even if they return them I'll just do that every once in awhile. You think they might come back worse than before?

Again, we are all different but yes, try some test spots with the 25% followed with continued use of 0.10% Tazorac. If the spots come back, try the 35% TCA or 50% TCA
Its on Amazon in a tiny vial. Clear glass with black top, very plain black and white label.
I used a threading needle to apply. I would dip the EYE part into the tca vial and then dab it on the areas i wanted to treat. It WILL burn but do not rinse off. Let it subside, then do anther application if you can. DO NOT rinse of, leave it on over night. It will turn white immediately but then red the next day. It wont look horrible but it also wont look great.
I usually tried to do it on a Thursday night, knowing it will be red on Friday but wont look too bad, but then it will start to peel off sat and Sunday. Depending on the tca strength and how deep it went, Monday will probably look like you tore a piece of skin off you lip when you weren't supposed to.
Good luck and post on here if you have any questions. Remember, do a test spot/area, dont do your whole lip.

No way to tell but like you said, if this at least keeps them away for three months and I have to burn some more off with the TCA acid, and keep applying Tazorac for the rest of my days, Ill do it until something more permanent comes around.
But so far, 50% TCA combined with applying 0.10% of Tazorac has given the most potential.

While the TCA and Tazorac attack it externally, change up things internally. I mentioned a bunch a few pages back (diet, working out, vitamins, sun protection, keeping a journal to see what foods/activities make them appear worse or better...you get the idea)

Okay so I just got off the phone with the plastic surgeon that I had sent an email to and it went better than expected. She said that they had the tools and the laser that I had asked about (the one you used DM) and they are willing to try it. I'm meeting with them April 26th to talk about the different options and the risks of doing the laser removal. He is worried about scarring because the lips are sensotive I guess, but ive finally found someone that is at least interested enough to consider the laser. In the mean time I'm gonna order the TCA and do that... If it works then I'll cancel the appointmemt until they come back (if they do). Or maybe just do a few test spots with the TCA and them test spots with the laser and decide which is better. Either way, this is great news and a step in the right direction. Lets keep posting, thia page has helped a lot.

Yes, try the TCA first AND Tazorac. Call them back and ask if they have a sample tube of the 0.10% you can pick up. If no, request a prescription.
I've mentioned this before. The laser worked great but the TCA 50% and tazorac has worked just as good, if not better. I had the laser test spot done which remove the spots but I NEVER went back to have more done becauase the TCA and Tazorac worked so well.
Keep the appointment though and go to the consultation with as much info as possible, then they will take you seriously. Be prepared though, they WILL say to "leave them alone" and "theyre barely noticeable". You have to be persistent.
They may even do a tiny test spot right at the consultation, thats what the three docs I went to did. If they do, make sure the laser is NOT on the fractional setting. I also had a fractional laser procedure and it does absolutely nothing.
